Colt Series 80
I'm picking up a Colt Series 80 .45 on Sunday from a friend of mine. He bought it from my uncle so I know the history of it. It has hardly been shot and my friend just had a nice trigger job done to it, real crisp and clean now. I don't know a whole lot about the different models of Colts out there. Any words of wisdom or thoughts on the 80 Series?

Re: Colt Series 80
Welcome to the world of Colts and 1911s! The biggest change from series 70 to 80 was the addition of a firing pin block safety which prevents the pistol from firing unless the trigger is pressed. Many purists decried the change but I personally have no issues with it.
Its a great pistol, one thing I did to mine was add an Ed Brown extended beaver tail safety to minimize 'hammer bite' on the web of your hand if you use the traditional high grip.
Enjoy!

Re: Colt Series 80
Please learn how to avoid putting an idiot mark on your gun. Second, remember most 1911 issues are magazine related. I also have no issue with the firing pin block.
Shoot the gun a bit before thinking of changing anything.
Have fun.

Re: Colt Series 80
ok, what's the idiot mark?
I'm not planning on changing anything right now. The only thing I may ever change would be the the swap to fully adjustable sights.Your web muscles do not frighten me.

Re: Colt Series 80
Go to http://forums.1911forum.com/, do a search and type in idiot mark. It is a scratch in the frame from the takedown lever that results from improper assembly/disassembly. You DON'T want to do this.

Oh ok, I know what your talking about now. That won't happen with mine. I used to own a Llama 9mm in a 1911 frame and am familiar with the take down procedure.

Re: Colt Series 80
It is important to keep this firearm be kept clean and lightly oiled. Try not to over oil if. and if you need work done past field stripping contact someone who is certified with or very good with the Sre"80.

Ok, I picked it up last night. Here are a couple of pics. I guess those marks by the trigger are the "idiot marks" spoken about earlier? At least I didn't do it and I got it for a good price.
