Default Philly Inquirer Wants Your Opinion

Check out this latest bit in the Inky. They are asking for your opinion on gun control in 200 words or less. Click on the article to get details on the e-mail address to send it to.

I think it's very important they hear from gun owners in Pennsylvania, especially if you live in the Philadelphia area. Send something along if you have the time.

Here is the email I sent:

The tone of your article illuminates your politics.

If the legislators in question are voting the will of their constituents, there is no deadlock, there is no impasse. That is democracy in action. The will of the people means the will of all Pennsylvanians, not just Philadelphians .

There is NO gun problem in Pennsylvania. There is a violence problem in Philadelphia. There is a thug problem in Philadelphia. The problem is not the tool used, but the underlying root of the violence. Poverty, lack of education, lack of parenting and a sub culture that promotes violence and crime as the answer, is the cause.
Every time a Philadelphia politician pushes a plan that addresses anything but the root of the problem they are doing their constituents a dis-service.

Simple solution, Enforce the laws already on the books, Keep felons in jail., No plea bargains! Straw purchases are already illegal! , If you buy more than one gun,the dealer already has to notify BATF. Enforce the laws on the books, and stop crying we can't do our job because we need new laws.

    Thanks

I probably should have mentioned... don't post your submissions here if you want them to be published. Newspapers typically won't publish what's published elsewhere. They might not notice it here, though.

Thanks for the heads up, and nice write up CZ40, it is very similar to what I wrote to the legislators about the 3 bills. Only 2 legislators got back to me by the way.

Did you give them your number and address? I am really not liking this suggestion.

I just gave them my name and the town I'm from. No need to give them more info.

Wink Re: Philly Inquirer Wants Your Opinion

So a newspaper from the City of Brotherly Love wants to know the publics opinion on gun control? I would much rather them answer a question. Such as, why are all the brothers killing each other? Not feeling the love from here.

    Here is my reply:

The last thing we need is municipal control of gun laws. Even most heavily anti-gun states frown upon local control. It makes hard for honest peaceful people to commute within the state without violating a local ordinance - making criminals out of good people. We need crime control, not gun control. Disarmed people are only prey for armed beasts. Even God(or evolution) gave horns to the impala to help fend off the lions.

Allow us to use force to defend ourselves, or issue us a cop to be with us 24/7.

Why should peaceful rural areas suffer for Philly's crime problem? There are guns behind nearly every door here - but not the same crime. 1 in 10 people in Jefferson County have a LTCF - and I can only remember 5 murders(by gun or other means) in the last 10 years. None of which by licensed persons.
