Question about the non-registry registry
I bought a new Taurus PT1911 on Friday. I was just on Taurus's website filling out the registration info. I got the serial number off the gun. When I looked at my receipt and my copy of the record of sale, I noticed that the dealer transposed two number of the serial number. I was just wondering, if I
would happen to be in a situation where the police ran the serial number, what would happen? I would assume that nothing would come back with the correct serial number. Could I find myself in the same situation as Pa. Patriot and have my gun illegally confiscated? Are there other legal problems I could run into? Should I contact the dealer and see what can be done to correct the error? Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Question about the non-registry registry
Yes. There have been at least two other incidents of this happening in the last year, reported on this board, that I recall
"Legal problem"? The above scenario would be a legal problem for the police. You have no duty to ensure your gun is on that meaningless, incomplete database.
Yes. The dealer is responsible for filling out that form correctly. It would be nice if you called him and explained the error. He should be able to fix over the phone.

Re: Question about the non-registry registry
Thanks for the quick reply Patriot. I'll call him in the morning and let him know what happened.

Re: Question about the non-registry registry
Call the dealer, because if the number is wrong elsewhere in his system it could get him into issues with the ATF.
The place that I part time when I'm home is computerized, which mostly prevents this sort of thing.PREPARE FOR BATTLE

Re: Question about the non-registry registry
I just had a similar thing happen to me. In my case he put a 2 instead of a 3. I noticed it 2 weeks later. I then took my receipt and PSP record of "sale" along with the gun back to him to show him the problem. He changed the number on my PSP "sale" record and went in his book to change that one also.
I wasn't worried about having a gun that won't trace back to me, but I was worried about some other gun out there that will.
