How long do we have before....
I was going to post this in another thread, but thought it needed it's own.
Well, most emails I get are dogsh!t, but this one made me think.
HOW LONG DO WE HAVE?
This is the most interesting thing I've read in a long time. The sad thing about it, you can see it coming.
I have always heard about this democracy countdown. It is interesting to see it in print. God help us, not that we deserve it.
How Long Do We Have?
About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:
'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.'
'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'
'From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'
'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'
'During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
3. from courage to liberty;
4. from liberty to abundance;
5. from abundance to complacency;
6. from complacency to apathy;
7. from apathy to dependence;
8. from dependence back into bondage
So, what number do you think we are at right now? I'm sorry to say that I think we are at number 6 or 7. Doesn't mean I think things are hopeless, just that we need some quality leadership and nearly complete replacement of the clowns that run the show right now.You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.

Right between 6 and 7 is where I'd put us too.

The above is why the USA was NOT a democracy.
The word (and methodology) started being assimilated into American politics around 1900..._________________________________________

Most areas of the country I would put us at a 6 to 7 but in many areas, like the bigger cities, a solid 7 heading to 8."Disperse you Rebels! Damn you! Throw down your Arms and Disperse!" British Major Pitcairn at Lexington April 19, 1775

Re: How long do we have before....
Id have to agree with the post above, most at 6-7 with the major cities approaching 8. Why?
Well lets look at the 'militarization' of most large cities, the bulk of the police force has been fed this 'quasi' military drivel and are armed and uniformed to fit the bill. The let's look at some of the 'stepping over boundaries' we have seen in NY, LA, Philly etc .... plain and simple they are pushing the limits and to this point no one has had the guts to push back.
America was never really a true democracy, in fact I'm not sure there has ever been a true democracy in the history of the planet (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong there) and while the ideal of a constitutional republic looked damn good on paper and in the minds of many of the founding fathers there were too many forces at play even back then to allow the vision to come to life. Greed and power are always a really bad mix.
Hell our history is full of moments when those that saw the corruption of power and rights tried to stop it, only to be put down in the end. I guess the best example would be the civil war.... which, unlike what most history books would tell you, was not so much about freeing the slaves as it was about the Confederation telling Washington they had overstepped their authority.
Unfortunately today most people don't want to hear the 'truth' so they allow their government to dictate parts of their lives that 200 years ago would have started an uprising in a matter of minutes. Plain and simple when people give over all power to their government they are setting up their country for destruction. Sad fact but all too true.

It doesn't matter what you call our form of government, it is on a downward spiral.
Between 6 and 7 is about right for most of us. Inner cities are at the bottom already. Full blown dependence on welfare, and slaves to their political party to keep the freebies coming.
