That kind of thing can happen with any holster that's not made very well. Or one that's been previously broken. Either way, situational awareness is always very important.

Holsters can break? Say it ain't so!
Good situational awareness would have prevented such an occurrence.Any mission, any conditions, any foe at any range.
Twice the mayhem, triple the force.
Ten times the action, total hardcore.

Ok, who is going to just stand there and let that happen?
If i felt anyone touching my holster, they will have an elbow before they can get my holster off.

it's also a Fobus, which aren't as durable as, say, Bladetech or Blackhawk.
but, yes, the second i feel pressure on my holster, someone's dome is gettin' busted.

And let's not forget that a speck of sand can jam and disable the release "button" on the SERPA.

That is far less inflammatory than the usual;
...but one of the reasons I think those who open carry are stupid.
On topic, that video doesnt surprise me. They put a $12 Ebay holster into a situation designed for it to fail. Its less a lesson against open carry, and more towards not skimping when it comes to equipment quality and retention. I dont know why they felt the need to snap the holster, since with no retention on the gun, the 'bad guy' could have just lifted it out.
The fragility of kydex is a superstition, the kind that naturally comes to bear whenever anything new comes around. This time its kydex interfering in a world of leather. Years ago it was Glock frames vs. metal guns. Next year, who knows.
Do real research, stay smart, keep it simple, and dont skimp on stuff thats only functional purpose is to save lives.
