Default A homeowner is in trouble with the law after defending his home and daughter

ARMED DAD DID WHAT HE HAD TO DO TO PROTECT HIS TEEN DAUGHTER FROM THUGS – NOW HE’S IN TROUBLE WITH THE LAW

A 44-year-old man on crutches shot an intruder to death while fending off would-be robbers from his home Friday morning — and now he’s the one in trouble with the law for having outdated paperwork relating to his gun.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the unidentified man was awoken by his 18-year-old daughter who heard suspicions noises in the house at around 9 a.m.

Armed with a gun, the homeowner reportedly “grabbed both of his crutches and walked over and unlocked and opened the door” to investigate. Moments later, two intruders came “charging towards” him, causing the 44-year-old to shoot at them, the Tribune reported.

“…grabbed both of his crutches and walked over and unlocked and opened the door…”
Mario Viramontes, 31, stumbled to the ground and was reportedly declared dead at the scene. Two other men were reportedly seen running away yelling gang slogans.

As authorities investigated the incident, they learned the homeowner’s Firearm Owners Identification Card was expired, according to the Tribune. Police then reportedly charged him with one count of possessing a firearm with expired paperwork — a misdemeanor crime.

Whoever charged him with that needs to be put to sleep.

That sucks, and shows why it is so important to fight any attempts for more gun control every step of the way.

I hope some gun advocacy group steps in and uses this case as a good test case to repeal or scale back some of IL gun restrictions.

I always use these stories as an example of an answer to the question, "how will they know?"

Prohibited persons who have privately-purchased guns, or who inherited guns, or who kept guns from before they were prohibited...they ask, "how will anyone know I have them?" Well, sometimes, it happens like this.

Other times, they tell a trusted friend, who later gets in trouble and is looking to make a deal by turning in someone else. Or their kids tell a teacher. Or their jilted girlfriend or ex-wife calls the cops. Or there's a fire, and the firemen find the guns. Or the cops are called because of a yelling match, and they look around while they're there. Or you slip and fall and paramedics are summoned.

The fact that he was justified in shooting the intruders has nothing to do with his unlawful possession of the gun. Yes, those laws are absurd, but they are what he lives under. And the cops can find out about his gun in unpredictable ways.

There is a simpler answer to "how ill they know". They will know when you use it.

Rham Emanuel takes shooting of his Democratic supporters very seriously. They HAD to charge him with SOMETHING! C'mon, we cant have LAW abiding citizens shooting all our base voters, the entire STATE of Illinois could turn Republican!! WE MUST set an EXAMPLE!! This man on crutches MUst HANG!! Now this poor bastard has thousands of dollars of legal fees and will still be looking at jail time..

I hear many on here tout "better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6"

Apparently this was the mantra this guy chose to live by, and it is working out that way exactly. He chose to risk the firearms charge (possibly inadvertantly in this case) but was still able to protect himself. Now he must defend himself on the charge. Considering he lived despite his foolish decision to open the door, he is lucky.
