    Default Which Rifle to buy?

I have a friend that is going to sell the following and I have first chance at them. They are unfired, in the box. I may buy one or two to stash in the safe until we hear about what may come from DC.

    Romanian AK .223

    Poly Tech AK 7.62

    Maadi AK 7.62

    Norinco SKS Sporter 7.62

I don't know much about these but as I'm researching I'd like the pros and cons from those that do.

Thank you in advance for your opinions.

I'd go for the Polytech or the Maadi assuming they were in standard military configuration (not thumbhole stocks). If they did have thumbhole stocks, the Maadi would probably be easier to convert because the Polytechs usually have angled receivers.

These are the two I'd buy, of those listed in your OP.

the polytech and maadi would be my choice of the four you've listed. romanian AK's can still be had pretty easily just a bit more expensive than they were a year ago. norinco SKS's are not to difficult to come by either but if i was going to purchase an SKS it would be a yugo. if your friend knows the value of his rifles the polytech is going to cost the most with the maadi running a close second. romanian AK's seem to have leveled out at around 500 bucks on average but i did see one at a gun shop in VA for 800.

all of the AK's and the SKS will go bang when you pull the trigger but the polytech and maadi should look a lot better than the other two. they are all good choices and i don't think you can go wrong regardless of which one you purchased.

Really depends on what your looking to do with the rifle. The polys command a higher premium because they are very nice rifles and because they can't be imported any more. Most of the Maadi's are very nice. I would stay away from the Rommy .233 ... heard to many stories about feeding problems.

If your looking just for a shooter I would buy the maadi and use the money I saved from not buying the poly on ammo. The poly would hold it's value better.

Thank you for the input. I was leaning to the Maadi after what I've read and even more so now. It's not a thumbhole stock model and if I remember correctly, it has a red stock.

Well, I ended up buying the Poly Tech AKS 7.62 with the folding bayonet. It's new in the box, never fired. 3 mags still in the wrappers. Hopefully it will work out ok for me and be a good shooter.

Thanks for your help. I'll grab a picture and post it soon.

great choice ... the poly techs are great rifles. Haven't heard of one not being a great shooter. Definitely post some pictures for us.

Just out of curiousity, how much did you give your friend for the Polytech?

I paid about 25% of what I see them going for on GunBroker. Here are a few pictures of the Poly Tech and one with the SA85M.
