Default Cleaning pads leaving residue/lint- help!

Hi all. I am using cleaning pads from my LGS (Tanners) and when cleaning and lubing the pads are leaving lint residue behind... Tiny threads that I can't get off with ease. I am not cutting the pads, just using them as they came.

    Is this normal?

    Tips for removing threads?

    Harmful to the firearm?

    Thanks

Probably not a big issue. My edc looks like it grew hair at the end if the week.

If a little lint (ok, a LOT of lint) is enough to cause a roblem with your EDC then it's time for a new EDC, dontcha think?

If it really bothers you try using coffee filters.

Thanks for the replies. Just confirming it's normal and won't affect function.

NO it's NOT normal and can affect function, it should not be tolerated especially if it is a carry gun, never settle for Garbage, throw it away and buy some quality cleaning patches they are a dime a dozen, i bought a whole bag of it years ago for like $7 still going strong, this is Remington Kleenbore 100% cotton., dont trust your life to Garbage. The patches are actually coming apart in your Gun , that is what the "lint" is. It's cheap recycled material.

I only use pads to clean the bore and old cotton dishtowels to clean the rest of the gun. Once it gets too dirty, I toss it and grab another one out of the drawer. I like the ability to grab the whole gun or part in the rag and really rub it down. I use Q-tips for the hard-to-reach places and WD-40 to spray out the nook and crannies, then a light spray of Hoppes 9 to finish it up.

Note to husbands: Yes, the wife will question the dwindling supply of dishtowels in the kitchen, so it's best to buy used ones from Goodwill.

If dust from cleaning pads makes your gun malfunction, then you need a new gun.

Cosmetically, yea, it sucks to have dirt and lint stuck all over your gun, but it happens, and there's no real way around it if you carry it daily

    Mj,

G-17 is dead on with the first line of his reply.

Not sure what cleaning pads you are using. If it really bothers you, just experiment and find what works for you.

I have not bought patches in decades. I use everything from old t-shirts to old dryer sheets. I have one of those silicon impregnated rags that is 40 yrs old. It is falling apart and leaves lint but still works.

May I add? I understand your wanting to keep your firearms looking good. The problem with that is that you'll feel like hell the day you drop it and ding the hell out of it.

Don't worry about the lint. Shoot the damn thing hard. Clean it good. Repeat often.

    Happy shootin.
