Where to shoot in centre county?
Does anyone know of any good ranges in the area? I live in Bellefonte. Do any of them have websites? How much do they cost?
Also, I know there are some shoots in the area and I would be interested, although I seem to be away a lot of weekends lately.
thanks

Re: Where to shoot in centre county?
Just down the road from you (South side of State College) is the Pa Game Commission Scotia range. It has a rifle range to 200 yds, a handgun range, several shotgun areas, an archery range and the auxilary range where most anything goes. It has the strict PGC rules and no full auto but....It's Free. If you're new to the area we'll be glad to give you directions.
There are other ranges around but you have to join them. I do most of my shooting at the camp I belong to or the Scotia range. Its' served me pretty good through the years.
As for shoots, just watch the forum, all the shoots are typically advertised several weeks (minimum) in advance so you can plan.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Re: Where to shoot in centre county?
From US 322 W: Exit to Grays Woods Blvd, turn left to Scotia Road, turn left to Scotia Range Rd. Range is about three miles back in the woods.
From SR 26: Take W College Ave out of State College to West Whitehall Rd (big Uni-mart on the left). Turn right on W Whitehall. Go several miles, turn right on Tadpole Rd at Fairbrook village. At Tadpole/ W Gatesburg Rd intersection, Tadpole Rd veers left, but keep going straight onto W Gatesburg Rd. Turn right at Scotia Range Rd.
Scotia Range Road is open from either direction to the range, but thru traffic is not permitted.
The range is just about in the middle of the big empty space on this Google map. You can zoom and navigate on this map to find your way.

Re: Where to shoot in centre county?
Some of the rules (shortened)
No full auto firearms
No more than 3 rounds in a rifle or shotgun
No more than 6 rounds in a handgun
No rapid fire (how can you with only 3 rounds
NO ALCOHOL
More than one person, then a Range Officer must control the shooters
Muzzles always pointed down range
Clean up you empty brass
When not actively shooting open the action
The complete rules are posted at the range, it only takes a minute or two to read them. Most are common sense but follow them to the letter, the WCO's like to make money from people that don't follow the rules.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

rs,
When you know when you are going to go there, post it in the Centre County portion of the site (Valleys of the Susquehanna) and probably more than one other forum member will show up to shoot with you.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Re: Where to shoot in centre county?
At the scotia, rules are somewhat losely enforced on the aux. range outside of controlled range. noone picks up brass(unless you want to for reloads), noone checks how many round you have in your hi-cap mag, and people do rapid fire.
You should still follow certain rules, like no drinkin' while shooting even at the aux range.
RangeMaster did show up pretty quick to yell at me when i did the bump fire tho...Audemus jura nostra defendere
