New Here And Need Info
Hello,
I am a new resident to PA and would like to become more familiar with the gun laws.
I do not currently own any firearms, but being the Daughter of a retired Army Ranger, I have plenty that are going to be given to me for my newborn son. What do I need to do to legally possess these guns?
If I want to purchase a gun, where do I start and what do I need to bring?
Thanks in advance!

Re: New Here And Need Info
Welcome to PA and the forum
Transfers of firearms from father to daughter do not require any paperwork of any kind as long as both parties reside in PA. He can just give them to you and they are yours legally. If your father resides out of PA, then federal regulations come into play.
To purchase a gun from a gun dealer, you'll need your PA driver's license and be able to pass a background check at the dealer before being allowed to purchase.

Re: New Here And Need Info
If the guns are being given to you from your father you need nothing, it is called 'gifting' and is 100% legal between mother, daughter, father son etc.
To buy a gun in Pa. you just go to a shop, find one, fill out paperwork and they will do an instant PICS check with the state police, if approved you walk out the door with the gun.
If you are buying a rifle you can do a 'face to face' with another Pa. citizen with no PICS check or paperwork (although there is a good form here you should use when doing this) if you are buying a handgun from a private party you MUST go through an FFL, do the paperwork and PICS check.

Or you can buy one from a private person, then go to a FFL for the paperwork and PICS.
WAKE UP OR WACO!

Thanks. I am new and have to figure out what all those acronyms are! My Father lives out of state, WV to be specific. I also have a Brother in VA who would like to gift some guns to me as well, for my son.

Re: New Here And Need Info
A sibling cannot gift a firearm to another sibling even if they are both PA residents. That just applies to transfers between parents & children, grandparents & grandchildren and between spouses if both parties are PA residents.
With your dad in WV (or brother in VA), legally he would have to ship the handguns to a PA licensed gun dealer, you would go there and go thru the background check (PICS - Pennsylvania Instant Check System) process and if you pass, could then legally possess the guns in PA.

OMG, no wonder I know why my Father gets so pissed! This is ridiculous!
I can't get a gift from my brother, I can't visit my Dad and take the guns home with me. This is absurd!
