Chamfering .38 cylinder
What is the correct angle and diameter bit to use to properly chamfer a .38 cylinder?
Should the ejector 'star' be chamfered as well or just the cylinder?Veritas Vos Liberat

.38 / .357 45* chamfer tool.
Thats the proper tool, and yes the ejector is also done. Not too much now, just enough to break the sharp edges. Just doing one handgun? If so, the tool will cost more than having a smith do it.
average price is $40-60.
Brownells sells the tool for around $100.
Hope this helped.

Re: Chamfering .38 cylinder
The brownells tool is the way to go. I have one for .45acp cylinders, been wanting to get one for .38's. It has a mandrel that keeps it square and it does a nice job.
I have chamfered several cylinders by hand with a machinists scraper. I do not get as aggressive as I would with the tool, but I have done a nice job on several.
I have known people to use dremels and a small grinding wheel, but I DO NOT recommend that course of action.
With anything else, once you take it off you cannot put it back on again, so be careful.

I just checked with The Handgunner in Topton. Randy will chamfer my .38 for $18.00. I won't bother buying the tool for that price.
