Harris Bipod? Alternatives? Knockoffs?
My dad's target AR-15 is basically complete. He has an actual firing gun now but he still needs to get all the extra stuff to make it all happen, things like like a bipod, scope and a magazine or two.
At the moment he's after a bipod. I've been doing a little bit of research for him and it would appear that Harris bipods are the most common/popular/one of the better ones. Are there any other alternatives that should be considered? Specifically ones that are a tad bit cheaper?
Also, not too long ago I stumbled across a company selling exact Harris bipod knock-offs for like 1/3 the price of the real deal. The bipods were getting a lot of good reviews on some forum and a few people who owned real harris bipods even said they couldn't tell any difference. Foolish I forgot the to save the URL to that site and haven't been able to find it since. Anyone know the bipods I'm referring to?

Something i learned a while back that i would like to share with you.
Doing something right the first time only costs as much as it costs. Doing something right the second time costs whatever it would have cost to do it right the first time plus whatever you spent doing it wrong initially. What's actually cheaper?

I understand that, but there are also times when you can safely cut corners too. He's already got a great upper and has his eye on an equally nice scope as well. I would think those would be the areas to spend the big bucks, not on a set of metal legs. I mean, this is just a bipod. Does it really make THAT much difference?

Re: Harris Bipod? Alternatives? Knockoffs?
there's a reason harris has the reputation it does. That being said, here's the clone you were looking for.

it's only $20 cheaper than the harris. Your call, but for $20 i know my choice (and it's why my fathers target ar sports a harris.)
as for the $20 one on CDNN, that's not a clone of a harris. Doesn't even pretend to be.Last edited by MarcS; January 7th, 2008 at 11:48 PM.

Just make sure it has the tilt feature or it's a PITA in the field.

Re: Harris Bipod? Alternatives? Knockoffs?
The Harris imatation sold by outers and shooters ridge is a good reason for the saying "you get what you pay for"
As a dealer I get good pricing on Harris and evan better on Shooters Ridge. I desided I'd save the few bucks and bought the shooters ridge for one of my own bench rifles. I shoot just about every weekend in the summer months and the Shooters Ridge didn't last me 2 months before the leg springs started getting weak enough to release when firing the rifle and the swivel locking nut wouldn't stay tight anymore.
JMHO but I'd spend the extra $$$ and get a Harris that will last you many years.

All I've ever used is Harris bipods. The pair(long and short) I have now are close to 18-20 years old and work as well as the day I bought them.

I bought the shooters ridge new from someone I knew and after only 40 rounds of 30-06 it broke. Go with the Harris.
