Default Newspaper publish map of NYS gun permit holders

Look at this piece of "journalism":

    http://www.lohud.com/interactive/art...eighb?gcheck=1

Just in time for Christmas, the official burglar holiday of the entire Western world.

All the comments are negative, even from people who do not own firearms.

Ironically the writer of the article has a gun permit as well and a commenter supposedly found the public record and published the address in the comments.

That's absolutely sickening. Now every single one of those people is at risk for being targeted specifically for a crime, burglary or not.

What if some anti nutjob decides to burn a few houses down to get a message across?

Absolutely unreal. There are a lot of good comments posted by residents of that area.

I can't fathom what part of posting that map with all of the names and addresses sounded like a good idea to the publisher.

It's like a road map for criminals to get their hands on legally purchaed handguns.

meh,,, seems like this is a matter of public record anyway. Sure it makes it "easier" to know, but it is not in any violation I suspect.

I think it is a little sleazy in the way of "journalism" though.

Although it may increase burlaries, but not robberies.

It is not strictly in violation, but they wanted to post the amount of guns owned, which are.

Also consider that in order to pull these public records, you would have to identify yourself, this way someone else did it for you and compiled all of them into an easy to use interactive map.

Finally, this is not only a map of places to steal guns, but also a map of where it would presumably be safe to commit a home invasion without risk of being shot (by a hand gun at least, it does not show long guns because a permit is not needed for those.)

I don't think it was Lancaster's paper, I think they were going to, but Philly did indeed do it.

Philadelphia published details of appeals to L&I. The legality of that is unclear to me. Court records are public but I don't know about L&I proceedings related to LTCFs and how they are covered under law. Seems Philadelphia is worried though since they took the records down.

Wow... we have to fear being sued if we advertise the address of a child molester but they can do this?
