Default Anyone catch Quantum Of Solace aka 007

I didn't see it yet but I heard it's not that great. If anyone can post a little review, that would be helpful. Also, what guns were present in this one? I heard the ppk makes an appearance.

I saw it yesterday, and it was okay... the usual Bond fare and story, namely, a good popcorn movie.

I don't mind that Craig is a grittier, meaner Bond. I heard that's more in line with the original author's characterization.

And the girl that played Strawberry Fields (Gemma Arteton on the right, below) was MUCH cuter (way more wholesome looking and curvy) than the film's touted Bond girl Olga Kurylenko.

But the action sequences where so darn fast and choppy I couldn't really enjoy them to the fullest... I think I saw his familiar Walter PPK .380 (or was it 9mm?), and at the start of the film he pulled out some sort of automatic short rifle, but damned if I could tell what it was.

I have figured out why the Bond Movies have been taking a beating lately.

    They are becoming realistic.

No lasers in the watch to cut steel beams with. No pens that are nuclear devices. No rockets shooting out of the car, or motorcycles. Lets face it. This is the Bond we all grew up with.

Nope, the last two Bonds were basically..... BOND. No fancy toys to save him. He used his head and what he would have on him, or whatever was in the room available. If you think about it. They are making him more believable. And I for one, am liking this aspect of the NEW BOND. The action is still intense. And yes they are pushing the limits, but, it is still possible right now for someone to actually do what he is doing. Not likely. But not impossible. He is wrinkled, cut, bleeding, bruised, bashed, and sweaty as h*ll when it is over. But he somehow came out on top. And that is what BOND is all about. (Must admit, some of the toys were really interesting. But in Die Another Day with Holy Berry, where Bond jumped out of a ice racer, parachuted into a giant wave, cause by the iceberg crashing into the ocean, and rode it out. Well, that was just a bit to much.

If James Bond really existed. He probably would be a lot like this Bond now. He isn't looking sharp and totally clean cut. His hair looks pretty rough. He has a bit of an attitude. But respects his boss deep down. He is all business, but can take time for the ladies once things calm down. I always hated how Bond would never get dirty or wrinkle his outfit no matter how big a fight he got into to. His amazing toys that do totally outrageous stuff were fun. But sometimes you just had to say, Yeah, right.

YEAH... I am starting to like the new Bond a good bit. Even the story line for this movie was believable. No one launching a laser thru diamonds stolen from a lost pyramid at a meteor zooming thru space, so he can divert its flight path so it will crash into the moon, causing the moon to hit the earth just crushing England.

Starting with "For Your Eyes Only" in 1981. I have went to the theaters to see the New James Bond movie on Opening day religiously. I have taken off work, I have called in sick. It is kind of a game for me. And after 10 years. I can't stop now. So, yes, I was in a movie theater yesterday watching Bond. James Bond. And I liked it.

HINT FOR THOSE THAT HAVEN'T SEEN IT. Rent the last movie Casino Royal and watch it first. There is so many characters in the new movie that were in the last one, that it will help keep you up on what is happening and who were good guys and bad guys. And the theme of the story has a lot to do with what went on in the last movie. So, watching the last movie before this one, will make it much easier and enjoyable to watch.

This is a filming technique developed and used in one of the Jason Bourne Movies (The second one) It got great reviews for this kind of filming. But I am with you. I'm not so sure it if is the Choppyness or being right in the fight, so It all blends together so fast, (kind of like a real fight). The action is fast, and non stop, and filmed up close. Trying to put you right in the action.

I really liked the first Bourne movie... although it had the feel sometimes of video camera cinematography, it didn't distract. But I never got to see any of the sequels... now I'll have to give them a try.

But this style of editing and filming just doesn't put the hook in me...

I don't WANT to be in the middle of the fight, I just want to watch it!

I prefer to watch the fight from a distance too. But guess we will have to settle since it is done. I don't really care for it either.

i welcome the change to the Bond genre.. though I love Goldeneye, the last Brosnan film was ridiculous in the extreme.

I find the fundamental "wit vs. wit, forcer vs. force" spy play to be far more enjoyable than laser shooting Rolexes or BMW's with nuclear warhead high-beam headlights.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but believe me, it's on the damned list.

I saw it and thought the last one was better. It wasn't bad I like the new Bond. They took the fight scenes from Bourne and tried to do it even faster, and it was too much. I get the trying to show how hectic it is and what not, but a one or 2 of them I had some trouble following.

It was ok not great, but I'd see the next one.

I agree 100%. Like I stated above, it is actually believeable now. And I for one found that much more enjoyable.

After watching the 2nd Bourne Movie a couple times. I have come to like the more realistic filming technique that was used. But the story line wasn't as good, I agree there.

As for the new Bond. I have really liked the last two movies. Hope they stay with the realism instead of the farfetched doo dads and special effects. Watch the last one before you watch the new one.
