Re: Advance Notice HB 2049
poking around his website makes me think this might actually end up being a good bill...hard to tell for sure, though.

Re: Advance Notice HB 2049
This is a very good bill. I know Jeff Pyle personally and have discussed it with him as Kim Stolfer has.
This provides immunity from termination if you have a firearm in your car while parked in your employer’s parking lot and he finds out about it.

Re: Advance Notice HB 2049
There is A LOT of sponsors for this bill! I hope it gets passed, as at my one job their policy is "No guns, or ammo is allowed on the property."

Re: Advance Notice HB 2049
in pa can't an employer fire an employee at any time for whatever reason? so how could this help. don't get me wrong the place i internship at and would like to work had a no firearms on property and i would agree that this should be the rule, any chance this can be amended to include colleges too? (wishful thinking)

Re: Advance Notice HB 2049
Well, it would probably stop the employer from warning you of their (to become) illegal rule. So even though they can fire you without cause, your chances are probably a lot better. It's a little more cut and dry with a "no guns" policy - you've been warned, you're fired. Most larger companies with HR departments will probably actually try to protect you from illegal firing.

Re: Advance Notice HB 2049
not quite any reason...rather, any reason that is not prohibited by law. for example, you cannot fire someone for being part of a "protected class" according to anti-discrimination laws. in no state can you fire someone for being black for example.
this would add another reason to the list of reasons for which one cannot legally be fired...namely, the reason of having a gun in one's car in their employer's parking lot. in effect, people who keep guns in their cars in their employer's parking lot would become a protected class relative to being fired.Last edited by LittleRedToyota; October 12th, 2009 at 10:57 PM.

Full Text is now available, but a little long to post here. But, here's a portion I found of great interest. See: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/CFDOCS/...r=2049&pn=2817
for full text
Section 3. Legislative intent.

24 (1) This act is intended to codify the long-standing
25 legislative policy of the Commonwealth that individual
26 citizens have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms,
27 that they have a constitutional right to possess and keep
28 legally owned firearms within their motor vehicles for self-
29 defense and other lawful purposes and that these rights are
30 not abrogated by virtue of a citizen becoming a customer,
1 employee or invitee of a business entity.
(2) A citizen's lawful possession, transportation and
3 secure keeping of firearms and ammunition within the
4 citizen's motor vehicle is essential to the exercise of the
5 fundamental constitutional right to keep and bear arms and
6 the constitutional right of self-defense.
7 (3) Protecting and preserving these rights is essential
8 to the exercise of freedom and individual responsibility.
9 (4) No citizen can or should be required to waive or
10 abrogate the right to possess and securely keep firearms and
11 ammunition locked within the citizen's motor vehicle by
12 virtue of becoming a customer, employee or invitee of any
13 employer or business establishment within this Commonwealth,
14 unless specifically required by Federal or State law.
