Re: My new SKS Yugo
Looks like a nice one. Do you know what year it is? Does it have the tritium night sights or the phospors?

Don't alter it, too nice in it's original condition. Good luck with it and enjoy shooting it!

Re: My new SKS Yugo
I got my "unissued" piece about 5 years ago, right at the tail end of the first wave coming in to the US. I paid $149. It has the teak wood stock and the phosphorescent flip up night sights. It also had about 20 lbs of some very sticky grease inhabiting every nook and cranny, bore and aperature. I spent 5 hours on a sunny Sunday afternoon trying to clean all the crap out, used "Blaster", bore solvent, finally used about a quart of gasoline (outside, no cigars). I thought I had it pretty clean - first range session after about 20 rounds, it heated up and liquid gloop began oozing out of all the hidden recesses that I had missed. Wonderful shooting piece. Very little noticeable recoil because of the weight. With the teak stock, the darn thing must weight over 8.5lbs. It was one of my favorite range guns - and more accurate than my Romanian SAR-1 AK clone. Good purchase - you will grow to love your new toy. ENJOY, there are few pleasures in this world better than finding a good shooting tool - except for the obvious one...
One of these days, I'll dig it out of the safe and take some pictures. The teak stock is unusual. I read somewhere that the Yugos got a shipment of teak wood from Viet Nam to make the stocks.Last edited by 32 Magnum; November 3rd, 2007 at 04:40 PM.

Very nice rifle. Where did you find it, and do they have any more? I want at least one."Having a gun and thinking you are armed is like having a piano and thinking you are a musician" Col. Jeff Cooper (U.S.M.C. Ret.)

Re: My new SKS Yugo
You know, those unissued Yugos are an amazing deal when you think about it. Not that there's anything wrong with the surplus ones that have seen use, but to get one of these rifles "brand new" is great. I didn't know they existed when I picked up my Yugo.
I would have happily paid more to have an unissued rifle.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: My new SKS Yugo
I have just recently become interested in an SKS based on what I have read on this site and a couple others. However, I have never actually seen one. I have been keeping my eyes open for them at the few local gun shops and the recent gun show in Valley Forge.
I would certainly welcome any suggestions and advice that you could share as to where to look for a got SKS. What should I be looking for and what should I be looking to avoid?
Thanks in advance.
