Value of a commerative NRA 100th anniversary 30 30 rifle?
Friend just got it from his father - never been fired in great condition. I just reoiled it.
He wants to fire it but I am thinking hes better off selling it and buying another rifle and ammo."If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom ... go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels nor arms. May your chains set lightly upon you and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." Samuel Adams

They made several thousand of them in the rifle and musket versions. Just another post 64 Model 94. Nothing special.

Re: Value of a commerative NRA 100th anniversary 30 30 rifle?
These types of commemoratives are commissioned by the people that want to sell them. In this case the NRA. They really have very little value over a standard model of the same type produced by Winchester.
Now, the commemoratives that Winchester produces itself to sell typically will be worth more as time goes on because Winchester produced them themselves to commemorate something (famous battle, famous time period, some historically significant event, etc.), they didn't produce them because someone paid them to do it. These "factory" commemoratives typically are made in small batches and as such will go up in value over a period of time (as long as they are not fired) because there are collectors that want them. The mass produced ones like the NRA can be saved and they may gain some value (after a long while) but again only if unfired and handled very little. I'd say your friend has shooter unless he wants to hand it down to his heirs (unfired).

Re: Value of a commerative NRA 100th anniversary 30 30 rifle?
Sounds to me to be a winchester M94 from 1971. Should have a medalion in the stock with 1871/1971. If it is unfired and with the original box with sleave. I have seen them at the Allentown gun show, usually for around $500. If it does not have all these things then it just a "shooter" and will bring no more that a regular post 64 M94.

I once looked at a 94 "Golden Spike" commemorative at a Virginia gun show. being a train nut it has special value to me but apparently not to too many others.
