Random Thoughts from the All.Co. Sheriff's Office
Went to apply for my LTCF the other day at the Allegheny Co. Sheriff's office. The one thing that really struck me was the diversity of people who were there to apply/pickup. I saw:
-Two clean cut white guys in business suits
-A clean cut black guy in a business suit
-A stereotypical PA redneck white guy who looked like he just bagged a deer
-A stereotypical "thug" black guy
-A stereotypical "thug" white guy
-A little old lady who looked like my friend's grandmother
-The HOTTEST chick I think I've ever seen in my life (with her D-bag BF)
-A "normal" western PA middle aged white lady
-A guy who had to be fresh off the boat from Africa/Carribean, going by his accent
-Me, a white guy metalhead wearing all black
I loved it. I loved it because it reinforced the idea that the right to carry firearms, whether for carrying, target shooting, or whatever, are enjoyed and appreciated by tons of different people. The "gun nut" stereotype (middle aged, white, rural, uneducated) is bullshit, much like many other stereotypes. I wish there was a way to get that image from the Sheriff's office out to all the anti's to show them that the 2nd is important to EVERYBODY.
Just a thought.Pittsburgh, PA
I also am a huge metalhead. PM if you wanna talk music.

Its kind of funny you brought this up. I stopped by a couple days ago to pick up my LTCF and thought the exact same thing to myself about the diversity of people there during the short time I was there.
I couldn't help but kind of chuckle to myself while filling out some paperwork after looking at the group of people in line.

How interesting that, that is a most popular photograph book. Makes me want to look into one. I did visit the site and it is sort of magnetic, it makes you want to continue looking at who has what and how many guns.
Very interesting. Just looking at the photos available on the site you can see how important it is to not prejudge; there's quite the variety.
Good post EM.

Maybe it's just the county . . . . when I went to renew mine in Lebanon county, I was the only one there who didn't show up wearing shiney bracelts. Maybe I was just there on a bad day
