Default Safe to dryfire a .22LR bolt action rifle?

I bought a CZ 452 LUX last week. This is one pretty gun, let me tell you! For those who don't know, the 452 is a bolt action .22LR. I know that it's "not recommended" to dryfire 22 pistols. Does this also apply to my rifle?

    Thanks!

Yes, it applies to rifles. Just use a spent casing and you'll be fine.

The brooks trigger kit is the best thing you can do to that gun.

It's not recommended to dryfire any .22 rimfires. When you do, the firing pin will hit the edge (rim) of the chamber and peen it over. If you have the need to dryfire, use a dummy round to absorb the impact. Most folks use a fired .22 case for that purpose, but there is a slim chance that there might be some unfired priming material in there, so you may get a bang.

If your chamber does get peened over, they make a tool for that...

Oh, btw, the Lux has a 11mm dovetail...not the standard 3/8 found on most .22's.

The ones I found were hard plastic and the rims broke off after a few 'shots'.

Thank you for the information! I'll keep that in mind. What's the trigger kit do? I don't tinker with my guns, and I'm new to the rifle world.

The kit has varying springs and shims to put over the trigger pins to adjust trigger pull and eliminate creep.

Mine breaks like glass at 2lbs. You can't beat that for $14.

And go buy some Wolf Match Target for that gun. You'll be pleased.

Once I get used to the rifle, I may just do that -- regarding the trigger. Once I shoot decently enough with the rifle, I'll try some of that ammo. For now, it's Federal Bulk Pack!

Dead on. I added the Brooks kit and my trigger is now perfect at a bit under 2lbs. I'm cursed with sausage fingers and the fine detail skills of a manatee but I was able to put in the Brooks kit with relative ease. Also agree with the Wolf Match. I can put 5 shots into a dime at 50 yards with my CZ 452 with that ammo.
