HARRISBURG, PA.: Former Homeland Security head may take on Specter

Tom Ridge, the former governor who became the nation’s first Homeland Security chief, may challenge Sen. Arlen Specter in the state next year, Republican Party leaders confirmed Tuesday.
Bob Asher, the state’s Republican national committeeman, said he met with Ridge in recent days and urged him to run.
“Governor Ridge is very serious about considering to run, and he is weighing his options,” Asher said.
Ridge and Specter, who stunned political observers last week by switching his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat, are two of Pennsylvania’s best-known politicians. An election showdown between them is certain to garner national attention and generate large campaign contributions from outside the state.
A Quinnipiac University poll released Monday showed Specter and Ridge running about even in a hypothetical general-election race. The survey showed Ridge, who has not run in an election since 1998, with a 55 percent favorability rating and Specter with a 52 percent rating.

Unfortunately I still haven't seen a Republican candidate that I'm thrilled about yet. But although Ridge is a RINO, I'd vote for him before Specter in a heartbeat if they wind up being the candidates in the general election.

Ridge is another RINO...and McCain just got trounced here. Ridge will be forever known for his color coding and duct tape preparedness.
If Asher is behind him, run very fast from him.

It doesn't matter where he lives right now.
It matters where he lives in a few months. It really is kind of a joke to think that his residency would hold him back from being elected. He is known for being a PA boy.
Remember guys he was a popular govenor, he has a good chance of winning in the general election.
