My wife just became even more awesome!

My wife has never been anti-gun, but she's probably been a hair on the negative side of 'neutral'. I always make sure the firearms are secured away, and always tell her the 'safe' practice she's seeing me exhibit. She tolerates my responsible use, but she's never had much interest in getting to know about them.

Until now.

As I recently posted, we have a very large bear (estimate 400-500 pounds) that calls our land part of its home. We also have two small children, and two dogs. A couple of weeks ago the bear ripped down the bird feeder - 8 feet off the ground - and totally destroyed it.

She's now asking me to take her to the range to show her how the pistol and rifles work, "just in case" SHTF and Mr Bear shows up unannounced and hell-bent on causing trouble. (Yes, I know that black bears don't behave like that, but we don't need to tell her just in case there's an exception to that general rule. Do we?!).
She even wants me to keep a full magazine (notice how I didn't call it a clip) on top of the kitchen cabinets in case she needs to grab the pistol from the cabinet and doesn't want to rummage around in the ammo box trying to figure out what to use.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call a RESULT!!

(And there's me thinking my wife couldn't be any more perfect)

We had a big one visitng our area last year. He tore up the bird feeders all up and down the road. He is a no show so far this year.

If it gets your wife to shoot, use it. Can only be a good thing.

I had the same problem in NJ (of all places). I kept a .35 Rem w/silvertips and a 30-06 with M2 AP in case the dog ever got attacked. Probably would have been castrated by the state but my dog was part of the family. Luckily never had to resort to them.

come on... that's you dressed up in a suit... lol ... wow i didn't know they got that close... i only ever saw a bear when i was in new mexico backpacking at philmont many many years ago.

Nope - 7mm WSM for that one.....but I want to get her started on the solitary pistol in my collection in the hopes that somehow miraculously the collection will grow and so will her attitude towards home defence. If you catch my drift.....

My dad has pics of this same bear on his porch, looking into the house thru the screen door. My dad is in bed now (Early to bed), or I would have him send me a copy of it.

I had him (the bear) on my porch, knocking my garbage can around. Took a pic with my cell phone. I was outside sitting in a lawn chair when he showed up.

He was getting way to friendly. Probably best that he didn't come back.
