Rats deserting a sinking ship?
I am not saying that any or all of the above are rats.
Just making a comparison.

Of every one hundred men in battle, ten should not even be there. Eighty, are nothing but targets. Nine are the real fighters, we are lucky to have them since they make the battle. Ah, but the one—one is the Warrior—and he brings the others home. —Heracletus

Re: Think they know something we don't?
I would be curious to see what the stats have been in previous election cycles. Are these numbers comparable or unusual?
From the looks of it, one would think that there are a lot of elected officials bailing out but this might just be the norm.
I wouldn't know without seeing other stats.TalkPa.net - The Message Board and Forum For Pennsylvania

Re: Think they know something we don't?
Since World War II, the lowest number of House retirements has been 20, in 1956. In the 1960s, House retirements generally ranged from the low 20s to the low 30s, but they increased dramatically during the 1970s and into the early 1980s, when they generally reached at least 40 per cycle. Then they fell, so that in 1984, 1988 and 1990 retirements ranged from 22 to 27 per cycle.
House retirements skyrocketed again in the anti-incumbent mood of the mid-1990s, falling back to the current level, in the low-to-mid 30s, from 1998 to 2006. There were 31 House retirements in 2004 and 2006, and 35 in 2002.Of every one hundred men in battle, ten should not even be there. Eighty, are nothing but targets. Jesus! I hadn't seen that before. I have to agree with Kimba here, rats jumping ship ... they know the shit storm that is going to happen over the next few years and they want to get as far away from it as possible.
