    Default Retd NYPD looking for good shooting range in PA

    i am looking for a good shooting range to visit, however the other question i have is, can i bring along a friend who is not licensed to carry and let him shoot as well?
    what are the laws regarding this in PA?

    Welcome to the forum. First off you posted this in the wrong section. To answer your question there's an app you can download called where to shoot which shows you ranges around you and their directions. And your friend can come he just can't conceal carry. Open carry is legal here.

    Yes, provided your friend is not a prohibited person under Pa or US law, you can allow him to shoot your firearms at a range as long as you remain present while he is using them - ie maintaining "dominion and control". Also during transport you should maintain exclusive control over your firearms - usually in a locked container for which you have the controlling access or on your person if you are licensed under Pa laws or LEOSA qualified .

    Be advised that using any of the established ranges on State Game Lands requires a PA hunting license or range license.

    There may be other issues if you are doing anything but going directly to or from the range. If so then:
    1. are you LEOSA qualified?;
    2. do you have any state issued CCWs?;
    3. will you be transporting any firearms off-person?
    ......3a. handguns, longarms, both?

    It would be nice to know what part of Pa. Let me guess, the Poconos.

    There are lots of nice places to shoot in NY. Slim pickens in the Poconos. Two crappy ranges that are very expensive.

    OP's address is listed as Long Island, NY, which could be any of four counties (Kings, Queens, Nassau & Suffolk), but it's most likely the last two (since the first two are part of New York City).

    If I understand New York State law correctly, and you possess a Nassau or Suffolk County pistol license, or a New York City pistol license, not covered by LEOSA, are you indeed permitted to take your property outside of New York State?

    Yes, New York State has revoked licenses for such.

    One that I know of but it is very expensive. I hear NJ has quite few that'll probably suit you better. Check out NJ2AS.org for the listings.

    I've been resisting making a joke about no ranges in the area having the broad side of a barn as a target.

    or dogs to shoot...

    BTW: we are only joking. Not all cops are bad. we just like razing the ones that show up here since we know they would never violate their oath.
