We could use your thoughts and prayers, please.
People these days talk about being prepared for emergency situations and SHTF. My wife and I have the S&P spirit and have even started the process of having a green and fairly self-sufficient property. We never thought we would be so unprepared to face the most SHTF situation of either of our lives.
As parents, our most horrible fears have begun to materialize as our little boy Hudson was diagnosed with stage 4, high risk neuroblastoma cancer on July 9th. He was 15 months old when we were told of his condition and of course, have been devastated ever since. He has 5 tumors and a very aggressive type of cancer cell. Since July 9th, he has undergone a battery of tests, surgery for biopsies, bone marrow aspirations, blood transfusions, several chemotherapy treatments, and the list goes on. The more aggressive treatments are yet to come and Huddy will also need to have a bone marrow and stem cell harvest and transplant, as well as surgery to remove his tumors if they have decreased in size enough to do so.
Currently Huddy is receiving his care from a very good team of medical personnel at the pediatric oncology clinic at an area children's hospital. He will also need to be admitted and receive treatment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where the bone marrow and stem cell procedures will take place, along with some very aggressive and risky chemotherapy and radiation treatments. We are told this is one of, if not the best place in the country for this type of treatment.
While his big brother is outside learning to play baseball, Huddy has to be inside the "clean room" at the hospital to play so he is exposed to as little germs and bacteria as possible which will make him susceptible to infection when his blood counts are low. We are in a very serious fight for our little boy's health.......and even though we don't want to think about it, maybe his life.
My wife will not be returning to work and we will need to make some life changes to be able to deal with Huddy's disease and the impact on our family. If there has ever been a SHTF situation, this is it for us. The impact on us in only a month has been enormous. The initial shock has worn off, we stopped being angry, asking why and crying everday. There are only about 300-500 kids per year who get this type of disease in the United States. Our doctors said it's just a crappy role of the dice and there's really no rhyme or reason to why kids get it. Now we are at the point that it is what it is and it isn't going to be gone if we close our eyes and hope it is just a bad dream. We are staying positive, going through aggressive treatment and we will simply adapt, adjust and overcome.
I wanted to write something sooner to get some prayers generating but just couldn't bring myself to sit down and do it. I posted this on Glock Talk this morning to ask for prayers and if you too could spare some thoughts and prayers, we would really appreciate them. PAFOA and GT are two of my favorite forums. I knew the members of these two sites would take a few minutes out of their own lives and family to keep our family in their prayers.

I am so sorry this has happened to your family. We will keep you in our prayers, please keep us updated on his condition...if you have a carepage...could you email it to me please.
We too have experience with CHOP as our son was born w/ life threatening issues. They are the best hospital we've seen so far...the doctors that Ben has had over the past 4 yrs have been superb. Please let us know if there is anything we can do or that you need. There is quite a few members down that way and I'm sure if you need something they can help you out.

I'm very sorry to hear your news. I know a few CHOP people, they are great doctors and it is one of the best hospitals around. Your son will get excellent care. I will pray for everyone involved.

iamhistory,
Here is one of my favorite prayers for the ill/afflicted:
Heavenly Father,
I call on you right now in a special way. It is through your power that Hudson was created. Every breath he takes, every morning he wakes, and every moment of every hour, he lives under your power.
Father, I ask you now to touch Huddy with that same power. For if you created him from nothing, you can certainly recreate him. Fill him with the healing power of your spirit. Cast out anything that should not be in him. Mend what is broken. Root out any unproductive cells. Open any blocked arteries or veins and rebuild any damage areas. Remove all inflammation and cleanse any infection.
Let the warmth of your healing love pass through his body to make new any unhealthy areas so that his body will function the way you created it to function. And Father, restore Huddy to full health in mind and body so that he may serve you the rest of his life.
I ask this through Christ my Lord. Amen
Take care and God bless,
Rand

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. As others have said, don't hesitate to call on your extended PAFOA family if there is anything you need.

Prayers sent.
From what I've read, CHOP is one of, if not the best place in the world that your son could be right now.You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.
