traveling to Virginia
I read the sticky on interstate carry and such but would like to verify the legality of carrying a firearm into VA. I see VA has reciprocity with PA but we are going to pass through Maryland which does not. From what I understand if we unload the firearm and store the firearm and ammunition in separate areas and do no stop in MD that we will be well within the law. Once we reach VA we can reload the firearms and continue to carry as we do everyday in PA. Is this correct and also if we are stopped in MD do we have duty to inform the officer that there is firearms in the vehicle?

Re: traveling to Virginia
If you stop in MD, only do it as a necessity for gas, food, bathroom, or vehicular breakdown. You are only protected from MD's laws if you comply with the first sentence.
Check out the handgunlaw.us link that was provided in the post above for VA and MD's laws. VA has a couple more off-limits places than PA does, but is really gun-friendly for the most part. Just watch out for the fast lane hogs when driving in VA.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515, SteveWag

Re: traveling to Virginia
Here are the transport conditions depending on the type of vehicle:
the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.IANAL
