Government wouldn't have had to lend them money if there weren't unreasonable restrictions set by the EPA which results in regular fining. I am totally opposed to government loaning private companies (even publicly traded companies are private enteties) money. I am also opposed to the government hamstringing our industries with regulations they don't need to comply with in other countries.

The markets are going down because Wall street was busted out by some clever gangsters, and they're getting away with it - with taxpayer money.

People are being robbed right in front of their faces and no one's doing anything about it.

The markets continue to dive, business either lay off massive amounts of employees, or go bankrupt.

why is it that toyota and honda don't seem to have this problem? (toyotas and hondas are made in the USA as well.)

i agree with you that there is a general issue of US companies (meaning, in this context, those that have production facilities in the US...which include both US and foreign owned companies) facing an uneven playing field in competing against companies that have production facilities in places like china or mexico (e.g., ford) that have very lax environmental, worker-safety, etc. laws, but that doesn't really seem to be much of a factor in the woes of the "big three" automakers as the top two car companies in the world also manufacture a large portion of their vehicles here and face the same regulations.

Free trade is the problem, so much of our wealth is indirectly exported because of this. China's rich because of our free trade agreements with them, that Nixon gratefully opened the door to.
