As dumb as the guy is, that is a concern that is prevalent among the populace. Perhaps this is a teachable moment?

How do you convince people that fear of something bad happening is not justification for limiting an individuals liberty?

A person could have a gun and 'shoot up the place' but they probably will not do so, and either way, we should not limit their liberty to have a gun. Even if they shoot up the place, we must rely on the justice system to apply the appropriate consequences.

I'll bet I have a lot of people tracking with me here so far...

But now, that all goes down hill...

Hmm... The same principal applies. The act may be distasteful, but until someone violates the rights of someone else, should we intervene?

Nope. Rights are rights. You do whatever you want to do so long as it does not interfere with my ability to do whatever I want to do. If you want to bet your last two crack rocks on black at the roulette wheel in the hope that the hooker in your lap will go home with you, so be it. If you are not 'shooting up the place' so be it. I may find your activities tragically distasteful, but it is not my place to tell you can't participate, and it is especially not my place to try to legislate against your ability do do so.

Darwin does just fine without the assistance of the Nanny State.
