Best AR15 lower?
To many lowers to choose from. What are some of the better ones and why?

Re: Best AR15 lower?
if you are talking about stripped lowers, as long as they are forged and not cast, they are mostly all pretty much the same. (and there are only a few companies that actually make the lowers anyway...then they sell them to other companies to put their rollmarks on them.) so get the cheapest one or, if you like a particular company's logo, get that one.

Colt. Same reasons we prefer Colt upper assemblies ......... the level of QC and adherence to mil-spec standards. Problem is they're even more scarce than complete Colt rifles.

Re: Best AR15 lower?
does colt still use a different size pin/hole to connect the lower and upper?
if so, this may be an issue if you plan to put an upper made by someone other than colt on the lower.
(also, if we are talking stripped lowers, doesn't CMT supply them to Colt? if so, how would a stripped Colt lower be any better than a stripped Stag lower...or a stripped lower from any of the other companies that CMT supplies with unmarked stripped lowers?)Last edited by LittleRedToyota; November 19th, 2007 at 06:04 PM.

Re: Best AR15 lower?
Yes they do but it isn't an issue. I have A3 (M4) uppers on my older blue label (small pin) pre bans. All you need is the adapter which is a $6.00 part.

Re: Best AR15 lower?
if your going to build a rifle, the lower is 1 part I would AVOID buying from Colt.
Who really wants to deal with different sized pin holes...when you can easily avoid it, and pay less to do so?
I have yet to see any problem (other than tight magwells) associated with a stripped lower, itself. A forged lower of your choosing would be fine: CMT, LMT/Sun Devil, Stag, CMMG, Sabre, RRA, Bushmaster, etc....I have seen 1 Colt 9mmAR that had an actual problem with it's lower...but that was one abused rifle.
You could be all unique in your build and go with one of these....

Re: Best AR15 lower?
I've never understood the angst about the pin hole size.
