Default i'm sure this is a lost cause, but eh... what the hell....

is it illegal to keep a firearm in your car? like say, i go into the courthouse and don't want to take them to defcon 4... can i do that? or could i get sited for leaving it in there, or some stupid shit like that?

please if you know the answer, reference the EXACT law, maybe even put it in your post WORD-FOR-WORD. Haha! i have an extremely dense uncle from italy that thinks that because i carry a gun i'm going to be put in jail.

As long as you are licensed or otherwise excepted per paragraph b of18Pa.CS§6106
    Then, no.

    Laws prohibit,not allow.

Maybe remind your uncle that he is in Pennsylvania, not Italy

    Yep, LTCF=vehicle exception, period.
Rumor has it that in Phila, if your handgun is stolen from your unattended vehicle, that you'll get your LTCF revoked.
This would never hold up in court though, but beware this example which is simply to illustrate that there are overzealous LEO agencies out there.
Thanks, feeling better for the first time in over a week (had severe reaction to the meds)

    In plain English:
    1. If you don't have an LTCF the firearm must be in a separate container and unloaded in a location not immediately accessible (If I recall correctly). With ammo in a separate container.
    2. If you do have a LTCF you can leave it in your car, loaded, anywhere, as long as you're in PA or a reciprocal state.

    OOPS! A little late...

This is true ONLY if you meet the exemptions in 18Pa.CS§6106.

Otherwise it is ILLEGAL to have your firearm in a vehicle. Even just the frame of a handgun counts, too.

Legal? yes. Wise (IMHO) no ... if I could find my rant about this I would link to it but I can't seem to find it.

My problem with leaving an unattended weapon in a car is simple, any one with half a brain can be in your car in a manner of seconds and YOUR legal weapon is now in the hand of some crackhead (or worse)... sorry I just do NOT think it is a good idea.

Good point! Does that include long guns? I thought the term "firearms" was referring to handguns only?
