    Question Glock Grip Plug question

Rumors afoot that Glock is about to recommend removing the after-market "grip (butt) plug" for safety reasons. Allegedly the hollow grip opening was designed as a safety valve for exploding primers. Anyone have any info on this? Thanks, in advanced

Never hear dthat but if you look at a glock it makes sense. It looks like it's designed for a reason.

I heard that it was designed that way. It saves them money, on the casting resin or something.

Sure, right when I started to get used to not having to pull out bellybutton lint!

If it's supposed to be a value of sorts, couldn't you just a fairly small hole in the grip plug to let it bleed off some of the gas? I mean obviously it wouldn't be as big as the original hole, but it would allow some of the gases to be vented off, and not leave a giant hole for lint and other things to get in. I don't know, just a thought, and maybe something that's sort of a compromise.

I have carried my Glock 30 for 6 years with out a plug. If it gets linty I just unload it and hit it with some canned air and then all better. I would like to know of all the Glock KB's how many of them used the grip plugs?

I was kind of thinking the same thing knighthawk, if some of the glock kb's could have been prevented if no plug had been in.

The amount of pressure it takes to blow up a pistol is more than sufficient to blow out a grip plug, were something like that to matter. If you take a look in the channel back there of a gun which has had a lot of rounds through it...you'll notice almost no residue from firing the gun...I don't see how pressure would be generated back there. Think about how much pressure would vent down through the magazine well...verus the size and location of that channel below the sear block.

It might be a premature assumption, but I don't see how the grip plug could possibly contribute to ANY Glock blowing up.

Agreed 110%... No idea how a grip plug (or lack thereof) could have anything at all to do w/ pressure levels or any other safety issue.

Am I perhaps not correctly interpreting the O.P.'s statement?

    -Bones
