next rifle purchase suggestions
I just love these types of threads, they are so much fun.
OK, so my next purchase is going to be a long gun of some sort. I already have an AR, although am not opposed to a second in maybe a diff configuration.
what I am looking for:
As many "ban" features as possible
Good cheekweld, no underfolders or wire stocks
Accurate enough to hit a paper plate at 100 yards
Ammo availibility and price are important
Must scare liberals
Not something anyone would ever "need for hunting"
Fun to shoot
So far I have been contemplating an AK, if I can find one with a sidefolder that locks up solid. Or a Kel-tec SU16-C, although it only has threaded barrel, high cap removable mag, and folding stock it does look pretty damn bad-ass and kel-tec is an american company. I could build another AR, and my wife has expressed that she would like us to have a lightwieght.
Any other ideas?
Mini-thirty with aftermarket AR looking stock?

An AK is a stellar choice, however not a choice that reconciles with your stated desire for a lot of accessories and doodads to hang off the rifle. The AK's best environment is bone-stock, with a sling on it and nothing else.
With that in mind
"Can" do with AK, but not nearly as easily as with an AR. The AR is born to be accessorized; the AK, not so much.

Re: next rifle purchase suggestions
Thanks for the response.
I did not want doo-dads, by ban features I want pistol grip, threaded barrel, bayo lug, high cap detachable mags, you know......the stuff that define the charicteristics of the types of rifles always being targeted for bans.
I could not hit a paper plate at 100 with my yugo underfolder when i had it, no good out past 50 hitting anything less than man sized. Maybe that was a function of the poor cheekweld on the underfolding stock, I dont know.
So, AK with a sidefolder is the way I was leaning. But most of the sidefolders look like there is a weird hinge out past the back of the rifle, and while I havent handled one that doesnt scream stable to me.

Re: next rifle purchase suggestions
I am of two minds on the AR versus the commie shooter de jour.
Both will probably be restricted if another AWB comes along. Confusion reigns for me on which one would be the most useful if replacement parts/ammo become a big problem.
If placed in this situation, I would probably go with something that was made here. I think 5.56 ammo would be easier to get if things really tightened up.
If you already have an AR, it would be much easier to standardize your ammo needs by having both rifles chambered for the same round.
I guess it all depends on the content of the AWB. If they stop the importation of parts and ammo, the choice is clear.

I think an AK meets all of the criteria listed above

Re: next rifle purchase suggestions
Perhaps, but 7.62x39 is the one caliber you can actually buy a lifetime supply of NOW, thus insulating you from the vagaries of price and supply and politics in the future.
If I were starting out all over again today, I'd almost certainly not get ARs or M1As but would instead just buy a couple of AKs and a big stash of ammo. I would standardize on that platform and that caliber.

I think you're limiting yourself. I know as you said, next rifle purchase, but how about a shotgun, like a mossberg 500? Round out the collection a little bit. You can still shoot at targets at 100 yds, with slugs. But if you really want to get a rifle how about a kimber Model 82, http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/caliber22.htm from CMP. I think being a proficiant marksman will scare the hell out of anyone more, than just another rifle.

Yes sir...what you need is a "sniper" rifle.
AK's are cheap, at the least get a parts kit for an AK and it might grow in value. AK is def first on the chopping block in regards to scaring people.
