Housing carry gun in FL

My dad lives in FL. He's 85 and doing well for 85, but I see times in the future when I may need to quickly be able to get from PA to FL for a couple of days or a weekend.
My wife and I are visiting him in a couple of months, I would like to take a bag with extra cloths and essentials to keep at his place so if I need to fly down I can just take a carry on and not mess with checking a bag. I was also thinking about keeping a carry gun at his place so I have something down there.
He is legally able to buy and possess a gun, he owns at least one I am aware of.
Are there any legal problems with leaving a handgun with him?

To be safe/sure, leave all of your stuff in a locked box. I leave a change of clothes, a good knife, $100, and a pistol+box of ammo at my mom's house 800 miles away. I put it in a lock box so any random wandering eyes aren't going to come across it, and if the police show up for any reason "oh, that's my son's box for when he visits"

Florida isn't a pistol possession permit state, so you should be fine.

Because of state lines, IMO, if he has access/custody/control of the gun, it's legally a "transfer". If it were in an inaccessible lockbox solely for your use when there, I believe you're ok legally.

I travel to Florida a few times a year and leave a few weapons here. I am here now. May I suggest you get a small gun safe and you can leave it there. Give nobody the combo and all will be fine.

Sounds like a good plan. I've got a couple small lock boxes, I can certainly spare one of them.
