    Default building suppressors..

Has anyone done it? The knowledge I have on suppressors is very limited.. i know it makes the gun quieter anyway ... Basically I dont want to pay $500 for a suppressor on my 22. I figure materials + $200 batf fee is cheaper. I've seen a K baffle design and vague instructions on how to make it but where do you get the parts?

if you are making a suppressor, YOU make the parts, you cant buy premade suppressor parts, as the ATF considers premade suppressor parts pretty much the same as a suppresor itself.

    $500 for a 22cal suppressor?
    where are you shopping?

$500 is the range of a centerfire suppressor, not a rimfire one, unless you are getting into the range of a full auto capable 22lr can, they require different and more expensive materials and machining

Craig Wheatley makes good cheap cost suppresors

you can also scout around and find Gemtech outbacks pretty cheap these days also...and other makers.

some folks can make one cheap for you, Henry Smith in Slatington can set you up.

Yes. However if you have no knowledge about suppressor internals, Then there is really no reason for you to try to make one. If you make one without understanying how and why they work (including all the various designs) then you will end up with a $200 muzzle extension.

You need a lathe and the ability to use it. Thats where you get the parts.

Take JayBell's advise buy one from a reputable manufacturer. You will come out way ahead.

Well I've found gemtech's for 250ish but after the tax and shipping i'd be out 500. But thanks for the advise fellas. I think I'll just have to save my pennies then cause I have no lathe or machining experience =/

Generally speaking, when you think or deal in NFA you don't consider the $200 as part of the purchase price, it's something that we don't have control over and we have to pay to play.

Tactical Innovations TAC-65 is an excellent can at an excellent price. I highly recommend them.
