Default First Aid: Are you prepared

This came up shortly in another thread, and I thought it should have one of it's own. It actually is a rather important thing we all should consider.

How many of you have any Basic or Advanced First Aid Training? How many of you carry a First Aid Kit in your car?

You realize, that not only may you have to shoot someone to defend yourself. But there is a chance that you, or, someone you love, will be shot. If so, are you prepared, and know what you need to do to keep this indivdual from dying.

    I do on both accounts.

Basic First Aid knowledge here, and a FA kit in the vehicle of course. At some point, I'll likely go through the training process as it is now and hopefully solidify my grasp on the subject. Great thread.

I have basic first aid training, and a comprehensive first aid kit in my car. I also keep a pelican case with a camp stove & fuel, 10000 BTU catalytic propane heater with 2 bottles, Primus kettle, pot, 7 meals of food, 3 litres of water, cigars, flare gun, hand warmers, jerky, Slim Jims, wind-up AM/FM/WX radio, FRS radios, lighter, headlamp and toilet paper. Also in my truck are 2 blankets, a pillow, ball cap, winter hat, work gloves, fleece mittens, rain suit, nitrile gloves, disposable sterile surgical gown, disposable 35mm camera, tools, hand cleaner, flashlight, cotton hand towels, shop towels, microfiber washcloths, fire extinguisher, crow bar, ratchet straps & bungees, tape & epoxies, zip-ties, Hi-Lift jack, calculator, sugar-free breath mints, spare eye glasses, knives, tire plugs, folding shovel, bottle jack, recovery strap & shackles, fluid transfer pump and automotive fluids.
It's all stowed properly & securely, and I still have room for 6 passengers.

I know a good deal about first aid. But i should seek out some advanced training.

I keep a monster of a first aid kit under the second row seats in my truck

DTI International(John Farnam) http://www.defense-training.com/ offers a Tactical Treatment of Gunshot Wounds class which also incorporates this treatment as part of a shooting course.

I have not taken this class as yet but hope to.

The instructor in this class is a Trauma ER surgeon.

Closest I've come to any formal training is this:

I know "Doc Gunn" personally and consider him a close friend. He recently moved from the Pgh area to VA. Doc was an emergency room surgeon in a major Pgh hospital.

ETA: Doc will be in Pgh in May for TTGSW.

Someone asked, so here is what is in my quick carry First Aid Pack.

I got the bag off of Ebay for around $20. I probably added about another $10 - $20 worth of stuff to it.

    It is only 6L x 8W x 5D

It is broke up into sleeves like a book, which makes it a bit easier to find stuff. Yet packs very nicely. What is inside this little thing. You might be surprised. My girlfriend is a nurse and she was amazed at what all I have in there.

    (2) triangle bangages
    (1) 1 inch tape
    (1) instant cold compress
    (6) packs of bacitracin zinc ointment
    (1) BurnAid Burn Gel
    (2) 6 inch wide rolls guaze
    (2) 1.5 inch wide rolls gauze
    (1) trauma pad
    (2) 4x4 dressing pads
    (2) 3x3 dressing pads
    (4) 2x2 dressing pads
    (4) Antiseptic Wipes

This pack is in my car and goes hiking and kayaking with me. I also leave a Ski Patrollers Pack in the back of my car year round, with more advance level first aid items that require training to use.
