It might be a Euro version with the mag catch at the rear bottom of the butt. Kinda hard to tell from the picture.

I had one, the mag release is in the regular spot even though its euro.
there are tons of those models around, apparently a big police trade in when they went to something else in germany

    from wiki:
    P225
The SIG P225 is a more compact version of the SIG P220 utilizing a single column magazine holding eight 9 mm rounds and having a 3.9 in. barrel. The pistol was developed to comply with the new German police standard in the mid-1970s, and was adopted by many German state police forces as the P6. Many Swiss police forces also use it, as well as the Swedish Police. Also, it is the main sidearm boarding parties in the Canadian Navy. German police pistols can be identified by the hammer, which is designed to bend on impact with the ground. Some Swiss police pistols have a different magazine release, similar to that from the P220. A new police standard was adopted in Germany in 1995, and the P225 is in the process of being replaced. Many of these surplus German police pistols have been imported into the U.S. recently and while most exhibit much in the way of exterior holster wear, they usually tend to be in excellent mechanical condition.

These are German police trade ins. Expect alot of hoster wear but good condition mechanically. Also, the majority of these guns dont like hollowpoints, due to the design of the feed ramp. Early 225's (1979 thru late 80's) had a different feed ramp than the latter designs. Some have had no problem with hollowpoints, others have.

Lastly, every one of these that I have examined had an extremely heavy Double Action trigger pull. Mine was over 12lbs. The single action pull is much better at around 5.5lbs.

    sig, thanks for the info!
I did have some feed problems with my p6, thats one of the reasons I got rid of it. I have been looking at Sig's again recently, and am glad to know why I had that issue. actually, looking at the P229 in 40S&W.

If its due to the feed ramp, is there a barrel you could replace it with that isnt too much $$$$ ?

A new barrel would run $150-$200, so when you factor in all the costs, not really worth it.

Here's a thread on sigforum about the difference between the early and late barrel. Complete with pictures.
