Remington 798 Mauser Action
I just picked up a Rem 798 in a .270 cal, the other day. After much hesitation with the unkindly reviews, I was amaizingly surprised with the performance of this weapon. Although the action is a little gritty and rough, there were no snags or hang ups throughout ejection and rechambering.
After sighted in at 100 yds, an acceptable three shot group of .75 in without a bench rest was accomplished.
The only downfall is the laminate stock, although typically stronger and less susceptable to warping and swelling with humidity, it seems to be a little too rough of a finish for the remington name to be associated with it. With a little TLC, it will be a nicer looking and feeling stock.
The price of $570.00 for this rifle IMO seems reasonable enough. But it is only worth what you are willing to pay.
Needless to say, I am very pleased overall with this popper.
