Any 1 with sleep apnea here use the cpap machine?
I just got diagnosed last week with sleep apnea which was no surprise to me.
I had my 2nd sleep study done yesterday and wore the nasal mask.
The Doctor said I stopped breathing 81 times and my oxygen level dropped to 83.
With the nasal mask on yesterday, I only stopped breathing 3X and my oxygen level stayed around 93. Does anyone currently use the cpap machine and how long did it take to notice the difference between using it and not using it? The Doctor said it usually takes about 4 weeks to fully feel the affects of using the cpap, but I'll tell you-I normally wake up in the mornings with HORRIBLE headaches and just yesterday with wearing the mask while being evaluated I felt A LOT better and didn't have a headache.Peace, Prosperity, and Liberty

You adjust to the CPAP fairly quickly. It only gives me trouble when I have some nasal congestion. I do feel better with it, but the results were not as good as hoped for.

I don`t use one anymore but I tried a bunch of different masks and decided and preferred a full mask FlexiFit HC431 as I`m a mouth breather. Took about 2 or 3 days to get used to it.

Re: Any 1 with sleep apnea here use the cpap machine?
felt some relief after 1 week
After 3 weeks, felt like a new man
Your numbers are high... but not as high as mine... I was in the 118 X
I will not sleep without it.
Depending on how often your insurance co pays to replace the mask....do it.
Save the older ones... you may dip in to them occasionally...like when one breaks , etc

I've used the machine for about 7 years now. don't remember how long it took me to get used to it, or notice a difference, but, I do notice now when I don't use it. We even take a drop cord camping with us so I can use the machine sleeping in a tent.
Highly recommend the full face mask. Its easy to just start breathing through the mouth during the night.

Re: Any 1 with sleep apnea here use the cpap machine?
I sleep with my mouth close...breathe entirely through my nose...
Yeah..my doctor told me to tell the medical company who delivers my machine that I don't have a mask so I'll start out with 2..
My Mom needs 1, but like you, she's stubborn...Sleep Apnea can kill you and who in the hell likes waking up with horrible headaches daily? I know I'm tired of them so the 1st thing I did when I got medical insurance was see the doctor for my sleep studies..Peace, Prosperity, and Liberty

Interesting subject guys.
I do know what sleep apnea is.
Can someone please explain this machine and mask to me and what they do and how they function.
Thanks!Last edited by Michele; June 13th, 2009 at 01:16 AM.

the cpap is a machine that pumps air directly into your mouse or nose, depending on the type of sleep apnea, to keep your airways open....basically, people with sleep apnea usually has something restricting airflow which causes people to stop breathing while sleeping.
