    Default PA Army National Guard

this one goes out to those men and women in the PA Army National Guard.

i recently talked to my Recruiter and asked him what he knew about some new regulations put in place for recruiting along with some of what is happening now in the Guard.

here's some of what was discussed.

    Effective Feb. 01. 2009

all Signing bonuses are to be eliminated

    No more med waivers

No more recruits who score under a 50% on the ASVAB

recruiters are having their quota dropped to one recruit a month

RSD is being cut and Recruiters now have to do all Administrative paperwork along with running the RSD.

instead of a one week Pre-IET program for new recruits it is jammed into 10 hours the day before they ship out from MEPS.

the PA Army National Guard is to cut Minimum 800 soldiers by Dec.31.2009

an overall cut of 8,000-12,000 troops by Dec.31.2010

he told me some other things that for the time being i will only respond to in PM.

things are not looking good for our soldiers.

Dont worry, the signing bonus removal alone will discourage a good percentage of people from joining. I dont think they'll have a problem reaching that 800 soldier goal at all!

This is no different than under Clinton when he claimed he "reduced the size of government." All he did was gut the military, now Obama is doing the same.

Yet he's deploying more troops. And the leftists were yelping that Bush was stretching our military thin?

Not entirely bad. Many join ONLY for the money, and while money is important we do not want a class of soldiers who are essentially of the "serving only for the paycheck" mercenary mindset.

    No more med waivers
This is also not entirely bad. People were getting waivers for things they never should have, just to make quotas.

Very good. You want smart soldiers, not dumb ones.

recruiters are having their quota dropped to one recruit a month
This is excellent. Look up "army recruiter suicides" on google to find out why.

RSD is being cut and Recruiters now have to do all Administrative paperwork along with running the RSD.
Other branches have the recruiters handle the paperwork, and they manage fine. Computers make short work of a lot of this kind of stuff which is pretty cookie cutter. And without the need for every other recruite having to have a waiver, the admin paperwork will most likely lessen anyway.

instead of a one week Pre-IET program for new recruits it is jammed into 10 hours the day before they ship out from MEPS.
Pre-IET is trying to be pre-basic training training. Thousands have made it through boot camp without this, thousands more will as well. I personally question the need at all, and if it is needed than basic training must surely be lacking in preparation of the troops. If so, fix basic and don't burden the states cost.

This will most likely be done via normal attrition such as retirements, people leaving since there are no more bonuses, enlistments expiring, not refilling positions, etc. Some people might get an early boot, but generally speaking most everyone who wants to finish out their career in the guard will get to.

    My personaly opinions, of course.

I got out 18 months early due to a RIF request while Clinton was in. Dead end rate, no hope of promotion unless I re-upped.

They should use the NG to investigate all the welfare folks. You know... if you drive your $40k SUV to the projects you get booted out.

The Marines were taking people who scored 33 when I took mine. I didn't know the scale so when they told me the score I asked my recruiter if XX was good. Every other recruiter looked at me with the nastiest of looks. If looks could kill I wouldn't be typing.

The thing is Pre-IET is good for Guard soldiers because many are soft and not used to a disciplined life. They come from comfort of a civvy job and Basic can be a bit of a shock.
