Kimber Aegis 9mm or Springfield EMP
OF THE TWO which do you guys think would be the better buy, The AEGIS uses regular 1911 9mm mags, and is the same dimensions of a regular 3" 1911 and all the parts are pretty much standard, that means I can replace all the MIM with steel. The EMP has been redesigned to fire the 9mm dubbing it the "short action" 1911.
While I would rather go with Springfield, the EMP has been redesigned enough to make the slide parts differerent, shorter firing pin and extractor etc, etc. The grip frame is also smaller thus not allowing the change up of grips. I'm pretty much set on the EMP just do to the better customer service and my own issues with Kimber in the past, but I'd still like to hear some other opinions.

Re: Kimber Aegis 9mm or Springfield EMP
It's more for the wife than me, she's a tiny little thing and her Kimber Ultra in .40 has just a little to sharp of recoil during rapid fire. Then again one more 1911 won't hurt me.

Re: Kimber Aegis 9mm or Springfield EMP
I saw an EMP for sale at a range few weeks back. Nice little piece, it is about the same size as the Sig P232sl that I was checking out also. I heard it got aluminum frame and the dude there told me it is not good to fire +P ammo in it. If it has a steel frame, I would consider it. Again, it is very nice and feel good in the hand.

How abou the STI LS9.......under $800. STI has more experience making the 9mm guns run.

Re: Kimber Aegis 9mm or Springfield EMP
I'd love an LS9 (I think STI makes fantastic guns) but the slide doesn't lock back on an empty magazine -- which is irritating to no end.
The Springfield is, in my unqualified opinion, pretty much the neatest 1911 design to come out in years. I've always wanted a 1911 in 9mm -- but the whole magazine thing annoyed the hell out of me (spacers? welding? wtf) and kept me from getting one. If I didn't already have a full gun safe I'd be at the shop buying one right now.
My one experience with Kimber was bad. I'm not trashing the brand, I'm just saying that I, personally, wouldn't buy one again, simply because I got tagged the first time. Many people love the brand, and have had nothing but fantastic experiences with them.Last edited by Rule10b5; March 22nd, 2007 at 08:20 AM.

Re: Kimber Aegis 9mm or Springfield EMP
Being the owner of a Glock, I think I'm qualified to give you my advice on this...
buy the Springfield. It has those cool hole-thingies in the trigger and that makes the trigger lighter for faster shots!
Actually, I have little experience w/1911 pistols. My own thought is that I'd not buy a 1911 style pistol in 9mm unless the dimensions of the gun were much less than a .45 version. If the external dimensions are practically identical, I would rather have the .45 cal. If, in fact, these two 9mms ARE smaller than a .45 1911, I have wasted your time and I apologize! I also just remembered that this is for your wife, so ignore what I said about sticking w/a .45... maybe it would be best to ignore everything I say because it's been a rough morning and I'm obviously not fully awake!
By the way, someone I know has a Kimber and LOVES it.
(Because he paid a LOT for it! Really... no other reason.)
I'll go away now.
Edited to add:
The stuff about the holes in the trigger/"faster shots" was humor!

I would tend towards the Springer, but quite frankly I can't justify the cost of either one.
