Default What manifacure do you get your extra mags from?

WHo makes the best aftermarket mags for auto pistols? How is Promag?

Pro-mag has a spotty reputation. The springs don't seem to be consistent. Mec-Gar on the other hand makes mags for the O.E. market. They're supposed to be more reliable, and quality more consistent.

Stick with the original gun manufacturer when ever you can.

Mec-Gar is the way to go if you want other than OEM. Mec-Gar is actually the manufacturer for many of the major manufacturers and often sell the same magazine at a discount under their own name.

Visit CDNN and drool!! They have the optimal prices on magazines for almost all of the regular and a fair number of not so regular pistols. Buy either original manufacturer or Mec-Gar. As mentioned in earlier posts, Mec-Gar make a very large number of the "OEM" mags for the pistol manufacturer to stamp their name on to. I have never had a bad mag from them. If you sign up for their email ads, then you will often get a discounted shipping price etc.

Forget (remove URLs etc!!) Promag, National and in particular, Triple K. The T-K mags are absolute crap and should be sent back to the company reps with orders to "insert where the sun does not shine".

I collect (and shoot) a very significant number of "strange" pistols and CDNN often has those mags, or if not, a visit to Google and a check of the various fora that discuss particular manufacturers of the pistol will often save you an immense amount of grief.

Remember most of the problems with a pistol aside from operator error!!) can be traced back to cheap magazines. Why try to save $10-15 by buying from any of the three manufacturers noted above rather than from the original suppliers/Mec-Gar? Definitely a false economy. Dave_n

    Mec-Gar..got to disagree with this
    I have a couple of Mecs..came with a Springfield
I also have some Chip McCormicks & wilson Combat
Side by side the Mecs...SUCK Compared to the others

Now here's the proof? If you search the net for the Higher End 1911's
You'll find the factory ships their 1911's with Wilson Combat magazine's
BUT just the Higher End ones.

    PS:Unless I missed some..Mec-Gar comes with welded
base plates instead of removeable. Welds have & will break

I like to stay with OEM.
CDNN has reasonably good prices and usually good inventory. They ship when you hang up the phone. If you order online they Email you immediatly if there is a problem.
