We were in Norfolk Naval ship yard to get the post deployment maintance done, just in time for us to get ready to go back. (yea)
So here's some pic's of us going down the Elisabeth river out to the bay.
That is the old battle ship USS Wisconsin in the back ground. That might give you a sense of scale for both ships.

I lived in Norfolk in the late 70's.Was working for a gunite crew out Alabama.
We were repairing the docks,the planes,the ships,it was all quite overwhelming,never forget it.I recall walking the docks,(some 660 yards or so,
and looking up).....Wow,!! At the end of the dock,there was still half the ship
hanging off the end and looking up some 160 to 200 feet up to the flight
deck,large is not the word to use here,more like colosal,a floating city,while standing there next to it,I have no idea how large ,like I was too close to see it. Also got to see them load supplys on a sub,never saw cans of food that large before.I was told that the sub-mariners had the best menus. It was all very intersting,like I said,I will never forget it .

Those aircraft carriers are huge for sure. And the old battleships aren't far behind in size. I've been on a few battleships for tours, absolutely immense ships.
