Default Father-Daughter Day at the Range.

A beautiful October day here in Pa. I was getting ready to head out and try my new rifle and my daughter spoke up saying she would like to go too. Cool!

She wanted to shoot her pistol and shotgun. As always we had a great time. We've been doing this off and on since she was 5 years old. She ran 50 rounds through her 9mm and a box of Winchester Super X's through her 12 gauge.

I took my newly acquired CZ 550 Safari Magnum in .458 Winchester magnum. The second .458 I've bought this month. The previous on is a Winchester Model 70 Super express.

This is the first time I've shot a .458 in nearly 30 years. It was shot with the aid of Vanguard shooting sticks. My first 5 shots through this rifle at 50 yards.

    Not too bad....

I think I'm going to leave the CZ with open sights for now anyways. I'm thinking of having it reamed out to .458 Lott along with adding another cross bolt to the stock and getting it bedded. The Winchester is going to get a 1.5x5 leupold. I'm going to use it mostly with the 350 grain bullets saving the CZ for the 500 grain stuff.

The best part of the day was when my Daughter fired the .458. I showed her how to hold and explained to her how to roll with the recoil. I must of done good, she fired it twice claiming that it was not much worse than her 12 gauge. She looks forward to shooting more.

If all the planets, stars, and moon align, perfectly, I can get one of my daughters to go shooting with me, nowadays. Good she still likes to go. I suppose with my two girls, it's like eating too many strawberries when you go picking them...ya just don't have the same taste for it, anymore. Surprisingly enough, my non militant daughter wants to go with me and her boyfriend so she can show her superiority to him, again. Hopefully, next weekend.

Good luck to 300WM. My Daughter went through that militant stage too. Hang in there, it'll end. The range has always been our quiet time if that makes sense. The range at the club I belong to is never busy. 99% of the time we have it to ourselves. With no distractions we get a chance to talk and catch up on things.

Glad you had a great day with your daughter. I'm sure being able to spend some time with her filled your heart with joy.

I took my 4 year old daughter shooting for her first time this Spring. She shot a 22LR rifle/pistol. Ironically, she did not shoot her own rifle for the first time shooting a firearm. I bought her a CZ 452 when I found out we were going to have a girl.

I hope my daughter will enjoy shooting when she is your daughter's age.

Just don't drool all over the inside of the car on the way to the range every time you go. They frown on that after a while.

I'm already itching to buy one of those pink .22s for my daughter, but she's only two. I'd hate to buy it only to find out later that she doesn't like pink.

Sounds like a great outing for you both.

I thinks it's awesome that she shot your .458 Winchester, twice! I'd imagine it takes some real moxy to settle in behind a rifle of that size caliber. Kudos to her for a job better than well done!
