Default Man takes several days to realize he shot himself (???)

You know....I guess it takes all kinds.

Florida man shoots himself, doesn't notice until days later

t took two days for Michael Blevins to notice the bullet holes in his arm.

Only after changing shirts did he see stains from blood seeping through the fabric.

Sheriff’s deputies later determined that Blevins, 37, accidentally shot himself while cleaning a handgun in the living room of his Florida home, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.

Blevins stood up while cleaning the .22 caliber pistol before feeling his back “lock up,” according to deputies’ report. Blevins had suffered a back injury before. Still took medicine for it.

The sharp pain caused Blevins' back to give out. He fell face-down into the edge of a glass coffee table, according to the News-Journal.

    Then he heard a gunshot.

But where did the bullet go? Besides a cut above his left eyebrow from the coffee table, he felt nothing.

(Blevins later told deputies that his back medicine possibly numbed him from feeling pain from the accident, even pain from a bullet wound, the News-Journal reported.)

For two days, Blevins went about his business as normal.

It was on the third day that Blevins took off his shirt. The shirt was black, a long-sleeved one, the kind that hides blood stains from bullet wounds should one ever shoot one’s self by accident, the newspaper reported.

Then he put on a light brown shirt, noticed his own blood and found the injury: Blevins could see where the bullet entered his left arm and where it exited, according to the News-Journal. It had cauterized, deputies later recounted, and was barely bleeding.

After Blevins was discharged from Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, deputies escorted him home in nearby Deltona.

“An investigation was conducted, and the shooting was deemed accidental,” the report read. “Case is closed.”

It is not all that uncommon to not feel a gunshot on impact. In Nam I took two AK47 rounds on my left lateral chest about 6 inches under my armpit. I was firing my M3A1 at the time and my left arm was elevated to firing position. I did not feel them hit me. It took some time for me to know I had been wounded. Mostly I knew because pain set in and my chest started to fill with fluids making breathing a challenge. I did not die because the AK rounds went through the Marine on my left before striking me. They lost energy that way and did not hurt on impact.

As for the fellow in the report, he should probably change his shirt more often.

Yea I was kind of thinking the same thing. Isn't it hot in Florida this time of year? Just the though of going three days in the same clothing is disgusting, when modern plumbing is available!

This is what I was thinking. Article didn't say how often he bathed, but my impression is that he probably should increase frequency. Especially in Florida.

I believe the brain processes one pain at a time, try biting your lip if you bang your funny bone, the brain processes the most recent pain stimulus before the other previous one, in this case coupled with 2 other pain sources and pain medication, a gunshot wound may go unnoticed for a few minutes, but Days? Seriously the guy needs to bathe more often. Maybe he was a prohibited person?

When I was learning how to fly rc planes, my flight instructor cut a couple fingers off
using a table saw. He didn't know it until he went to scratch his nose. He thought he just got nicked.

Notice....he did not find the gunshot until he changed his shirt two days later.

No blood flow in the shower if one does not shower.
