Default short (sort of) barreled 50 BMG

I was out browsing arms and saw what looked like a 22" barreled BMG. While the body was thick and it looked heavy enough, it made me wonder what the ballistic perfomance of a powerful round in such a compact package. Most .50 caliber arms I have seen are clearly set on longer barrels. Can anyone weigh in on the history of a short barreled .50 cal, its perfomance, use, etc? Im curious now that I have seen it.

I have seen them also, far as I can tell ballistically/accuracy I would figure you are robbing yourself of all the .50 BMG has to offer.

While "neat" I would opt for the longer barrel myself.

If I recall barrett makes a short barrel version of the M107 for LE use. Not sure of the barrel length on it though.
