Magazines for Sig P229
Hey Im looking for some magazines for my Sig P229. I have been looking for some magazines and I found some Pro Mag 10rd 9mm but says that it is for the P228. My question is will they work for my P229???? For other magazines such as Mec-Gar advertise there mags as for 228/229. Im trying to find some cheaper mags than the factory Sig Magazines.
If they do work, Do you recommend them? Can you recommend any others?
Thanks

Re: Magazines for Sig P229
Step away from the magazines! Truth be told, I've never tried a ProMag magazine, but there is a good reason for that. That reason is that I have NEVER read anything good about them. They are universally despised. They could never be cheap enough for me to want to put up malfunctions. That may be the only case in which I'd purchase one - if I wanted to practice malfunction drills.
Spend the money and buy MecGar (Sig's supplier) or Sig branded mags. If you are not already a member, I'd recommend Sig Forum, if for nothing else, the Classifieds. You'l find some good deals on mags there.

Re: Magazines for Sig P229
I'm no Sig guru, but I believe the 228 and 229 are pretty similar with the exception of stamped slide (228), trigger guard and the option of calibers, therefore the 228 mags will work in a 229.
Buying the promag is going to be a gamble. It may work fine, it may choke up without getting a full magazine off.
That being said, I bought a few Promags for a surplus P6 I have and (knock on wood) they have been fine. 100%. Not one hiccup to date.
Would I every carry it? Hell no, but for range play and not wearing out the $40+ P225 mags, it's fine for me.
From a quick search on Midway, it looks like the Promags are around $27, Mecgars $30 and the Sig OEM are $37.
Why not spring the extra couple bucks for the Mergar if money is tight?
They are hands down better than Promag and are actually an OEM mag manufacturer for some big name pistols.
EDIT:
Just came across these:

Yes, P228 and P229 9mm mags are the same (you can also use P226 15 round 9mm mags, but they'll stick out of the bottom of the grip a little bit)
Don't buy the Pro Mags - they suck and are not reliable.
Check out Top Gun Supply. They are a great company to do business with.
Here is a link for used P228/P229 mags.

New (that say Sig on them)

and the Mec-Gar 15 rounders (that don't stick out)

Re: Magazines for Sig P229
As you didn't say, I am assuming these would be for the range only.
I would only want Sig magazines in my Sig.

Spend the extra ten bucks and buy the factory mags. Think about it, good mags can last you a lifetime. Buy quality and you will buy once and be done with it.

Re: Magazines for Sig P229
I only run factory mags in my P229 for .40/.357. If you check around, alot of places have factory mags at decent prices. I've picked up P229 mags for around $29.99 for factory pieces, keep an eye out as some places run a buy xx amount and get 1 free sale on mags too.
