Sure look HERE
Every Iraqi household is permitted to have one AK—47 assault rifle to help protect their family from terrorist and criminal attacks.

Yeah I saw it on the military channel. They did like a company journal thing or something and they were questioning families. A family was allowed to possess one AK for every fighting age male, or one for the family minimum.

Re: Sad ...... but true
yeah it is defininitely true....its a status symbol over there...you can't take a man's AK from him, because it will shame his family. without it, he cannot protect his family.

Re: Sad ...... but true
In the late 80's I was part of a team that helped protect Embassy Territory in Karachi, Pakistan. The British Embassy had just been blown up....still smoking when we arrived. Anyway, just walking around Karachi you would run across dozens of gun shops with tons of AK's and clones of anything. The shop owners would blast up into the air and give that shrill scream thing with tongues going a million miles per hour. Really got your attention.
Also, I was friends with a Iraqi family in high school. The mother hardly spoke english, or was even seen. The father was a engineer or something. The kids were extremely athletic. Anyway, thay had pictures all over the house with family members holding AK's (in Iraq). Strange to see as a kid who's only experience with guns was TV, movies, and shooting a friends 22 on a farm.
Of a one in a million note of worthless trivia to you all......my brother was depolyed to Iraq last year. He was a Colonel, assigned to the Ministry of Defense. He ran across one of the kids we went to school with from that Iraqi family, who was working for NATO. Small world.“IF THE DEVIL COACHES NAVY ORDNANCE, THEN HELL IS THE ORDIES HOMEFIELD”
