HELP! I need to learn how to shoot with both eyes open.
I am new to shooting (both pistol and rifle) and find myself facing a big problem: I cannot close my non-dominant eye.
The above is problematic because most often new shooters are advised to close their non-dominant eyes when trying to use iron sights to aim at a target. I am unable to close my non-dominant eye due to an injury I sustained in my youth. Please note that I actaully can close my non-dominant eye but NOT if I try to keep my dominant eye open.
What are my options?
Are there specific sights or optics that I could use with either a pistol (my current pistol being a Glock 19) or rifle (mine being an AK) that work best with both eyes open?
Or are there any methods for learning to shoot with both eyes open that any of you would recommend based on experience? I have seen various methods suggested for learning to do so but it appears that they are not all giving the same advice so I am not sure what would yield the best results.
At any rate, any and all help would be most appreciated.
Best.

I am no expert on sights but I recall reading on some that you are supposed to keep both eyes open.

Shoot with both eyes open. Squint non dominant eye and open slow, you will focus fine.

I find any "iron" sight that includes a large front dot to be helpful when shooting both eyes open. Trijicon HD or XS Big Dots come to mind. Another option would be to add a good quality red dot sight. This is obviously the most expensive option.

You having an eye injury likely rules this out, but for me, I eventually realized the reason I had to shoot with my left eye closed to be effective while shooting right handed was that fact that I'm actually left eyed. Switched sides, both eyes open, no issues...

You're better off learning how to shoot with both eyes open. I force myself to shoot that way!
