    here's a little colt porn.
    big boy is a '42 a1.

although this one was not, these little colts were issued in very limited numbers during ww2.
they even had a special rig for them called "the hold-up rig". it mounted on the side under teh left arm, and when both arms were raised, as in surrendering, the pistol could be discharged in the general direction of the enemy.

That "Holdup Rig" sounds interesting. I got a vision of Maxwell Smart wearing one, and shooting the coffee cup out of the chiefs hand. "Sorry about that chief"! Cool pocket pistol, you gonna shoot it?

What are the cuts in the end of the barrel? Is that part of the lock up system?

no. it's a straight blow back gun with no lockup.
in order to field strip, you back the slide up just a bit and give the barrel a quarter turn, then everything slides forward and then off the frame.
the cuts are to grasp in order to spin the barrel.
to reassemble you slide everything back on and un-give(hows that for a new word?) the barrel a quarter turn to lock it back in.
