Pulled the trigger on my first handgun....
Well not literally but I broke down and made a purchase today on my first handgun. I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet but I can't wait! I did some extensive research on here and fondled a few at some local shops. I was very interested in the Sigma series but I couldn't get past all the mixed reviews. So I figured I'd drop the extra coin and ended up with an S&W M&P.40. As soon as I picked it up I loved the way it felt. I had not planned on spending this much but I just sold another toy and had the cash so I figured what better way to spend some of it. For some reason I have not been able to force myself to get into a Glock but was thinking I might have to try. This wasn't any more money and holding the two back-to-back in the shop I definately felt more comfortable with the M&P. Hope to break it in this week sometime. Ended up getting it at Gander Mountain in York. Service was great and prices seemed very reasonable to me. $529.00 - S&W $50.00 or 2 mag mail-in-rebate. Glock in similiar frame and same caliber was the same price. They seemed to have a nice selection also. Free trigger lock and cleaning mat too - woohoo!
Let me know what you all think, sorry the pics aren't to great...

The best handgun is the one that feels 'right' in your hand. Sounds like you made a good choice

Re: Pulled the trigger on my first handgun....
Congratulations on your purchase !! You're gonna love it !
I have the M&P9c, and I think it's one of the best guns I've ever owned.
I never got into Glocks either, don't know why, I'm just an S&W kinda guy.
Not that there is anything wrong with Glocks, just my preference
(tries to avoid a flaming from the Glock owners )

Re: Pulled the trigger on my first handgun....
First of all congratulations. I know its too late but did you price the gun at Freedom Armory? Better yet Stoney Brook Outfitters. They are both within 15 minutes of G.M. in York. Keep them in mind for your next purchase. IMO you got a decent deal. Not good not bad but decent which is fine. I own A M&P40 and think its a great gun. I also have some very similiar pistols like a Glock 22 for example. I like the S&W just as much as the others. I dont think it has ever misfired or jammed ever. It needs very little lube and maintenence and takes down very simply. You have a good gun there. I think you are much better off with that than the Sigma. Good luck.

I considered going to Freedom Armory but from what i read on here and heard from some others was that they tend to be a bit on the steep side. Should have probably checked anyway for myself but sometimes shopping without buying gets old after awhile!

I have a M&P 40. I really like it.
Take the Mags rather than the 50 bucks. I'll bet that on January 21st you will be glad you did.
