    Default Dog from SPCA?

Has anyone ever rescured a dog from SPCA?

I'm thinking strongly about rescueing this Pug from Local SPCA
a 3.5y/o Pug with malnutrition. Pretty sad looking pug.
But I've never rescured a dog from SPCA, so I donno what to expect.

I've already filled out of paper work, and arranged to let my pug meet this sad Pug just to make sure they can get along(and my Vet is checking him out and make sure there is nothing other then malnutrition is going on with him), but otherwise, I'm gonna give him a new home.

Haven't done it in years but my family only went to the SPCA for our pets when I was a kid. From what I understand the SPCA in general has improved from top to bottom and most of them take much better care of the animals in their care than they did back when.

    Great idea!
I've done it in the past, turned out great.
Well it wasn't actually an adoption, I kind of stole her.
But none the less it worked out great, and I had her for many years till she died of old age.
I would recommend giving a dog a second chance at a life they so deserve.
    The rewards will be endless!
    Good Luck!

You can expect a dog that will love you unconditionally.

Sounds like you're approaching this in a responsible manner and that is commendable.

The Pug "meet 'n greet" is a good idea. Just keep in mind that things don't always work out as perfectly as you hope initially. Unless one of the dogs truly has an "issue" with being around other dogs, they usually work things out between themselves and will likely become good friends.

Good luck, and a big "attaboy" for rescuing a dog from a shelter.

When my vet told me about this pug, I was initially thinking "poor pug", but thats it.
But more and more I think about it, I felt i should look in to rescue this dog.
This SPCA is not "No euthanasia" shelter. So if someone don't adapt him, then what happens to the dog in the end is inevitable.
While I can't resucue every dog, and change the world, I can certainly change 1 dog's fate.
Not to mention that when I went to look at this pug name "Taz", he was some sorry looking pug - you can tell that he hasn't been fed well at all. At one point, he prooly weigh around 20lb. But he currently weigh about 10lb. You can count the ribs, some skin condition, eye buggies. He was only resucued last week, and I can't imagin who bad he was when he was rescued.

But what got me the most is that he just had this look in his sunken eye - Sort of given up any hope, no twinkles, no happieness. Unlike my pug.

No way any kids gonna want him. He look too sad.
So I'm gonna more then likely take him.

All I can say is, GO FOR IT!

I have a Purebred Black Lab that I rescued from the SPCA and he is great. He didn't make a good hunter tho, he likes to take the birds and burry them instead of bring them back but no big deal he turned out to be a GREAT guard dog.

We then desided we wanted a BIG indoor dog and one to take to the shop from time to time. So we went back again and rescued a Purebred jet black Great Dane, He was abused by children so now he gets a little testy when he is around children under about 10 years old but again he has also become a Great dog to have around. I haven't found anyone that will walk into my house when he is stareing at them thru the window and releasing what sounds like the bark from hell.

I wouldn't think twice about rescuing a dog. Granted, my first choice would be to pickup a pit bull when it's born but I would still check the local PAWS or SPCA before doing that.

Good for you, man. I think we all want pics when you get him home and fed

kinda makes you want to find the SOB that put him in that condition and return the favor. Doesn't it. I know when I got the Dane he was about 3 pugs under weight He ate 5 pounds of food in the truck on the ride home.

If there's room for another mouth to feed - GO FOR IT!!!

Here is a picture of my $37.50 SPCA Akita - Nikki
I adopted her when she was about 1 1/2 years old. She only weighed 55 pounds and had cuts and sores all over her. She is 8 years old now and weighs 110 pounds. She is the best watch dog that we've had. When she barks, the house shakes.

She is my 4th rescue/SPCA Akita in the past 17 years.

My first was a 130lb 5 year old female - Chui. She was the best Akita that I've ever had. When my boys were young, she would let them ride her and do just about anything to her.
Right now I have two Akitas - Nikki and Dexter.

Sorry - but I've got to post some more pictures!

Here is a great shot of Dexter at Halloween

Here is what they do best
